Eric Persson has challenged Matt Berkey to a $1,000,000 buy-in heads-up duel, but instead Doug Polk is trying to take Berkey’s spot!

The poker world is currently swamped with Twitter feuds and highstakes challenges, with Berkey in the middle of a Heads-Up Grudge match aganist Nik Airball after the their brawl at the Bellagio.
Doug Polk, who is stirring the pot between seemingly everyone, is also taking on all comers at $100k buy-ins while dealing with alleged criminal activity at his poker room The Lodge.

Persson, the CEO of Maverick gaming, decided he too needed to get in on the action, taking issue with some recent table chat.
Berkey, “Airball’s coach Eshaan “Brown Balla” Bhalla, and Persson’s old arch-rival, Phil Hellmuth were discussing the recent $1,000,000 buy-in cash game “Cash of the Titans”, where Eric Persson lost a huge $1,978,000 pot to Patrik Antonius.

Although supposedly friends, Eric Persson and Berkey managed to swap enough insults on Twitter this week to set the challenge in motion…
Happy to back the truck up you next big boy 😘
— Matt Berkey (@berkey11) April 6, 2023
Berkey said his “Backing up the truck” comment was tongue-in-cheek, but said he was baffled by Persson’s match rules…
“To be completely clear, I am not going to play a heads-up match where I have $1million of my own action in play. It’s just too much of my net worth,” admitted Berkey.
“If I had $5million, then OK, I would consider it, but I don’t have $5million,” before remembering he was currently playing “Nik Airball” and adding: “Well actually, let’s see how the next few weeks go!”
With Berkey basically declining Eric Persson’s kind offer of a match, Doug Polk, again trying to be the centre of attention, was quick to offer his own challenge.
His parody of the gravelly-voiced, musclebound poker amateur saw Polk state: “Hey Eric, Why don’t you pick on someone your own size!”
Polk, of course, is a highstakes heads-up specialist, and won $1.2million in a previous grudge Match versus Daniel Negreanu, so it’s unlikely Persson will want to donate any more cash his way.
