Doug Polk has been called out over a popular tournament at his Lodge poker club having a massive 17% rake. YouTube poker vlogger Ryan Depaulo couldn’t help but see the irony of this after all of the criticism Daniel Negreanu got for saying “more rake is better.”
Doug Polk Gets Slated for Massive 17% Rake at His Poker Club
After all the rake sizzle takes @DougPolkVids did over the years, he now owns part of a club that runs a monthly $500+$100 lol

Doug Polk really went to town on Daniel Negreanu after he made the clumsy comment, while he was still a Pokerstars ambassador.
Now it seems he’s getting a taste of his own medicine.
A thread popped up on Two Plus Two back in February detailing this $500 tournament with $100 of rake, but it didn’t appear on social media until last week.
Doug Polk was quick to respond and pointed out that this event was already organised with the same rake before he bought into the business.
He added that the tournament is so popular that they ran out of tables in a 60-table room the last time it ran.
These smaller buy-in events can have large fields which require more dealer and floor/cage staff to run, although Polk did, in the end, concede that the rake is a little high.
But he also pointed out that The Lodge poker club now has the cheapest cash games in the county, which is some boast.
The fee in the monthly tournament is a bit high. That said we have the cheapest cash games in the country and that tournament is still incredible value. We pay our dealers well here too.
Regardless, my take was rake increases can’t be good for players, not for the lowest rake.

Doug Polk Takes More Heat as He Posts First Solid Win at The Lodge
The other night, Doug Polk tweeted that it took until April 2 for him to post his first solid win since buying into the poker club.
Three months of bad beats and not being able to hit boards ended last Saturday and all he got was more abuse. Repeatedly stacking people all night was followed by sarcastic comments of “so you own this place huh?”
Last night had my first solid win at the Lodge and had to endure a barrage of “so you own this place huh?” comments as I repeatedly stacked people.
The worst part is it took 3 months to have a single day where those jokes made sense.

It didn’t take long before there were more comments in the Twitter thread about how playing against the owner in his poker room is never a good idea. He can’t win, it seems.
It’s tough at the top, but Doug Polk has thick skin and is a smart guy. We’re sure he’ll make sure that there is no PR disaster on the horizon anytime soon.
