Former high stakes professional Doug Polk is organising a petition to recall the mayor of Las Vegas.
Mayor Carolyn Goodman has come under fire from both residents and the mainstream media for trying to push through the reopening of the city, including the casinos.

Doug Polk on a Crusade
Doug Polk is never one to shy away from expressing his opinion. His YouTube video producing career has seen him clash with many big names in the gambling community, especially Daniel Negreanu.
This time though, he has reached new heights. The only politics poker players usually engage in are either on Twitter or something to do with the campaign for legalising online poker in the US.
Polk’s issue is with Mayor Goodman’s support for reopening the city. He thinks it is completely irresponsible with no regard for public safety due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The novice political crusader spoke to 13 Action News and said,
“We are recalling the mayor because over the last few weeks, she has failed to represent her constituency responsibly. Not only in her clear disregard for public health but also with her support for the casino owners over the people of Las Vegas,”
Split Opinion
The argument on how long the lockdown situation can go on for is being debated heavily in every country that took that line. It is proving to be a serious bone of contention.
We have all heard about the economic damage that is being done right now, with fears that the coming years could rival those during the Great Depression almost a century ago.
The question is when do we decide to turn the lights back on. Those arguing not to do this are claiming that many lives will be lost for only money.
The counter argument is that economic hardship also causes many deaths with mental health issues also ruining many lives for years to come.
We might be facing a reality of financial devastation if we stay under lockdown, but a large percentage of the population cannot face the choice of risking so many lives.
Polk needs to gather 6,745 signatures which is one quarter of how many votes Mayor Goodman won in her election.
What was surprising is that Polk doesn’t even live in the city himself. He lives in neighbouring Henderson 16 miles away.
Apparently that doesn’t matter in his campaign as long as long as all signatures he collects are from those who are resident in Las Vegas and voted in the mayoral election.

Doug Polk Still as Sarcastic Ever
Polk has also gone to the trouble of producing a YouTube video on the topic. In it we can see he has lost none of his sarcastic style of delivery as he slams Mayor Goodman’s ability to put her point across clearly in a CNN interview.
“Additionally, she is barely able to speak coherent sentences while discussing the subject matter. She is unfit to serve as the mayor of Las Vegas.”
It’s hard to criticise Polk’s beef with the politician when he accuses her of siding with big business rather than protecting the people she swore to .
Speaking to 8 News Now Polks said,
“When you elect someone, they should represent you. They should have your best interest at heart, they should also have a responsibility to protect you. That’s what you want from your politicians, and we’re not getting that here.”
This story looks to run on for some while. There will no doubt also be some push back from big names in the poker world who have a different opinion. We look forward to seeing this story develop.
