Doug Polk Is Finally Making Videos Again

Doug Polk has announced that he is to restart his video producing career. The American former high stakes player previously expressed his lack of interest in the niche and looked to be moving onto fresh challenges.

Doug Polk Returns

This news will delight many of Doug Polk’s fans. One of the most popular, and polarising, characters in poker, he built the most popular vlog-style poker YouTube channel.

“I’ve been lazy for way too long. It’s time to get back on the wagon and fire up some videos.”

Busy building his Upswing brand for years, we kind of get the impression that he’s freerolling somewhat now. He says he’s been lazy but boredom will always get you in the end.

Sadly, it still isn’t certain that Polk will return to making pure strategy videos. “corona/politics/current events” are the ideas for now, but anything can happen in the future.

Now 32-years-old, Polk is reaching that stage in his life where he wants to know what direction his future will take.

A little over two years ago, he announced his retirement from playing poker as it just wasn’t satisfying any longer. With millions of dollars banked from high stakes cash games and tournaments, it’s no surprise that motivation was lacking.

Lack of Recognition for Doug Polk

Back in January 2020, the Global Poker Awards snubbed Polk’s contribution to video media production. He was, to say the least, a little miffed and took to social media to vent his frustration.

His coverage of the Mike Postle scandal was extremely concise and almost identical to his friend Joey Ingram’s, yet he didn’t even receive a nomination.

This time around he does have some clear goals. With 288k subscribers on his poker channel and only 20k on his anything goes channel, he can carve out a niche for himself.

Long gone might be the challenges he streamed on TwitchTV, such as the successful $100 to $10,000 test. But there will be fresh and interesting formats incorporating current affairs and no doubt the poker scene in a more general sense.

Doug Polk

Driven

Anybody who has risen to the top of their discipline has that driven character pushing them all the way. Doug Polk is typical of this, regardless of anybody’s opinion of him as a man.

His success as a player, content producer, and strategy guru for his Upswing brand have all been well-received.

He also has a clear passion for everything he sets his mind to. This is no doubt one of the reasons why he so publicly ranted about the award nomination snub.

All of this makes one wonder if he can really stay away forever from everything he retired from.

Now pushing two years since he really played any kind of volume, the shelving of his YouTube and Twitch channels look to have made him rethink life.

These character types are just not capable of sitting back and receiving passive income from their investments.

We look forward to seeing what Polk has in store for us over the rest of the year. To keep an eye on what’s been happening, don’t forget to follow the latest poker news.
