Highstakes poker pros Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel were involved in one of the strangest Twitter spats ever this week – the pair trading verbal blows on the subject of how child molesters should be treated…
Yeah, one word mocking of someone who’s been sexually molested, making themselves vulnerable by giving an opinion they spent years coming to through immense trauma.

Carrel, the young Englishman who turned a $15 bankroll into $millions via his online poker prowess, has long been regarded as ‘out there’ on social media – regularly tweeting about such things as the anti-vaxx movement and poisonous dental fillings.
His original tweet that child molesters should be helped by basically showing them love and understanding met with a torrent of abuse, but it was Doug Polk’s one-word response that particularly riled him as seen above.
Doug Polk, once considered the world’s best heads-up online NLHE player, posted several times in response to Carrel’s remarkably open but incredibly unpopular views on the subject of child molestation. It was clear what Polk’s own take was..
Child molesters are just right up there at the top of the scum of the earth, fuck those people, and no I will not have any love or empathy for committing such horrid crimes to peoples children (I mean FFS how is this even a debate)

An emotional Carrel, however, wasn’t about to let Polk off easily and posted a video to YouTube harshly criticising his American foe who he describes as “having a lot of animosity towards me”.
Claiming that Polk “always has that ‘troll energy’…he wants to make you really feel bad about yourself”, Carrel also mentions two high-profile fights that Polk has previously been involved in – with Alec Torelli and Daniel Negreanu.
It’s not Doug Polk’s first Twitter fight…
For those who perhaps don’t follow the social media side of the star poker players, Polk’s long –running dispute with Nergreanu centres around the Canadian PokerStars ambassador’s alleged ‘More rake is better’ claims.
Polk not only unveiled a t-shirt sporting Negreanu’s words at the Super High Roller Bowl when seated next to Kid Poker, but also paid for a massive advertisement hoarding during the WSOP, as seen below…
Polk’s beef with Alec Torelli arose after Torelli was accused of angleshooting on Poker Night in America, with the pair producing tit-for-tat videos arguing the toss
Carrel claims that Polk’s nastiness comes from “a place of deep, deep insecurity…and a lack of self-love”.
“I’m not saying ‘Yo, fuck you Doug – I’m saying have some fucking grace, lose the arrogance and just try to dig deep in yourself and find out where these things are coming from”.
If Polk’s approach to other poker players is often sarcastic, sardonic and occasionally spiteful, Carrel is a very different character indeed.
Often looking and sounding like a new-age hippy, Carrel is not your typical modern world-class poker player…recently arguing against the GTO approach to the game.

Judging by his rebuke of Polk, and his six victories and $6.5million in cashes, Carrel certainly has fighting spirit – although he may choose a different medium in the future for some of his ideas…
