German high stakes tournament star Dominik Nitsche has publicly criticised Pokercode’s GTO solver Odin. He tweeted that some of the outputs were grossly inaccurate and misleading to players.
Going to have to call out Odin for quite frankly the worst sim i’ve ever seen. I had this output sent to me by a friend and it made me curious.
There is no way this could possibly be right. So how did they get this result? And can we trust any of the real time solvers ?(1/?) pic.twitter.com/HPxk0ovH6T

Dominik Nitsche Slams Pokercode’s GTO Solver Odin
A sample sim sent to Dominik Nitsche caught his attention as looking nothing like what an output from a highly accurate solver such as Pio would display.
Curious as to what might be the issue here, Nitsche fired up his own Pio Solver and set it to only 8% accuracy to see what it came up with. Lo and behold, the sims were almost identical!
For those who don’t use GTO solver software, 8% accuracy is nothing close to the level that is desired by any player, with 1% considered a minimum and 0.5% ideal.
In other words, Dominik Nitsche is claiming that the reason why Odin can spew out solutions within such a short space of time is that the outputs are very poor quality.
I fired up PIO. Here’s a sim with the Odin sizings. At 8% accuracy.
For those unfamiliar with PIO: that means barely solved at all. This sim is unuseable for a professional but it looks oddly familiar (2/?) pic.twitter.com/gjUTP1Ed9L

Fedor Holz responds
It didn’t take Pokercode founder Fedor Holz to respond though:
The only difference in the results in this sim from Odin vs. PIO is that PIO min-bets more often which makes basically no difference in EV. The end. 🙄 pic.twitter.com/o7YTW4fuvB

No Quality Control
Dominik Nitsche then launched into a tirade on how these fast real-time solvers have no quality control with players being openly deceived.
“Now I could let it run longer to further prove my point but there’s no need for that. My point is quite clear: most real time solution tools on the market cut corners. This is just one very specific disgusting example.”
The general feeling throughout the Twitter thread was that Pio Solver is the gold standard and no serious player would ever disagree with its outputs.
Simple Post Flop also joined the conversation with its own tool and backed up Nitsche’s claims.
One Big Positive
Of course, there was still disagreement. Dominik Nitsche can be an abrasive character and people criticised him as only trying to back up his own solver website, DTO Poker.
Charlie Carrel tried to move the discussion onto how we know whose solution is the most accurate but did state his agreement that the initial sim from Odin looked extremely damning.
The most positive thing to come out of this argument is that companies claiming to sell accurate and fast GTO sims are still unable to do so with any kind of quality.
Real-time assistance during play is one of online poker’s greatest fears and now it looks as if we have confirmation that this is still not even close to being available to the masses. This is great news for the game.
