Does Dan Jungleman Cates Retire from High Stakes Poker?

Enigmatic high stakes pro Dan Jungleman Cates has hinted that his full-time poker career could be coming to an end. The 31-year-old American has been blogging about his personal and professional life and told how it’s time for a change.

Is Jungleman About to Quit?

The recent ghosting scandal about Bill Perkins private game has set the poker news outlets alight. Perkins had a regular invite only game on a poker app that was populated by only recreational players who were friends.

Such friends included one of the biggest fishes in high stakes poker, Dan Bilzerian.

It turns out that some of these players took the opportunity to hire a little help. The help being top drawer professionals, one of which was Jungleman.

Jungleman took to his notepad and apologised profusely, but he was more than a little put out with the way he was singled out as the only villain. The way Dan Bilzerian publicly told the poker community was rushed and inaccurate.

In fact, Jungleman claims to have never played a single hand of poker against Bilzerian in his life.

Could all of this be the reason that he is considering quitting the full-time grind?

New Pastures

With the COVID-19 lockdown giving everyone plenty of time to reassess their lives, Jungleman looks to have gone through every small detail.

He correctly sees that he has been successful at poker and now wants to improve other areas of his life.

He also sees that the challenge is not as satisfying as it once was.

“Anyway, poker no longer satisfies my ambitions, so I have largely been working on a new career path. One where I will hopefully be able to align my crazy ambitions and selfish motives towards what is better for doing good in the world.”

A new career path is in order. One that is more aimed at doing better for the world.

Being on the road for so many years must take its toll. Ever since Black Friday pushed the US market out of the worldwide player pool those players have been pushed into the live arena.

Jungleman has been seen in every major festival there is, including the Triton Super High Roller, but now it’s time to try new things.

It’s not goodbye forever though. He just says that poker won’t be his main focus any longer.

“To be clear, I am not quitting poker, just shifting focus unless big opportunities or games come.”

What About the Jungleman Galfond Challenge Match?

People will now be thinking about the Galfond Challenge match against Jungleman. Will he bother to play?

He almost certainly will. In fact, this week Galfond and Jungleman played a mini warm up of 750 hands.

750 hands of €100/€200 PLO should be enough to whet any poker fan’s appetite, and the fans loved this impromptu treat.

In the end Galfond was the victor by a €90,000 margin, but with such a small sample size nothing is certain for the real match up.

Just like the rest of the poker community, we can’t wait for this match to happen.

Currently Galfond is playing 15,000 hands of €150/€300 PLO against ActionFreak and leading by around €160,000.

Don’t forget to check out the action on Twitch.
