Danny Tang has lifted the prestigious Ivan Leow Player of the Year Award as the standout performer of the previous season.

This year, at the prestigious Triton Series event held at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo, Danny Tang emerged as the recipient of the newly established Ivan Leow Player of the Year Trophy.

Danny Tang’s journey in professional poker has been nothing short of remarkable. At just 32 years old, he has accumulated a whopping $28,702,009, with his best cash being only $1,796,498.

Over the course of the last Triton Series season, Tang showcased his silky skills by cashing in 19 events, reaching 13 final tables, and securing two victories.

The award ceremony was a spectacular affair. Fireworks illuminated the night sky and ticker tape rained down as Tang accepted his trophy amidst a crowd of supporters.

Among them were Triton co-founders Paul Phua and Richard Yong, who played instrumental roles in fostering Tang’s career.

In his acceptance speech, Tang expressed heartfelt gratitude to them, acknowledging that without their support, his dreams might have remained just that — dreams.

“Without them, a regular guy like me wouldn’t be able to come here and chase my dreams. In my opinion, it’s the most prestigious award in all of world poker right now.”

In terms of performance, Tang amassed an impressive 3,700 points in the Player of the Year standings — more than 350 points ahead of Jason Koon, last year’s winner.

His success began with a victory at a $60K event in London early in 2023 and continued with strong showings across various locations including Monte Carlo and Jeju.

While winning $200,000 as part of his award is still worth collecting, for players like Tang, respect from his peers holds even greater value.

Put simply, many of these high-stakes players would give up a huge chunk of their winnings to be recognised as one of the best in the business.

A Tribute to Ivan Leow

The Ivan Leow Player of the Year Trophy is particularly significant for Tang as it commemorates his late mentor, who was instrumental in shaping his poker career.

Leow was not only a co-founder of the Triton Series but also a passionate advocate for emerging talent within the poker community.

Tang fondly recalled how Leow instilled in him the “Triton spirit,” emphasising perseverance and camaraderie among players.

He acknowledged that being close to a professional poker player can be challenging, particularly during tough times when downswings occur. His girlfriend, KD, has been a massive source of support through these ups and downs of his career.
