Daniel Negreanu is a very busy man these days.
He’s grinding at the WSOP Europe in Rozvadov for his much coveted “WSOP Player of the Year” award. He’s on such a grind that he even cashed in two events simultaneously.
However, Negreanu also took the time to share his innovative ideas about his ideal poker tournament series.
Daniel Negreanu on a New Poker Tournament Series
Here’s the tweet from “Kid Poker” that got the poker world talking.
Considering running a poker tournament series with the following highlights:
-One event a day
-No late registration (unless you are in another event)
-No reentry
-NLH and other formats
-Guarantees on all events
-Player of the Series award— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) October 16, 2019
The thing most people seem to connect with the most is a no re-entry tournament.
Evidently, that would be nothing new in poker. Freezeouts were originally the most common format. Also, the biggest tournament of each year, the WSOP Main Event doesn’t allow re-entries to this day.
Daniel Negreanu and others think that re-buys, especially unlimited re-buys, in an event made the early stages feel like a crap shoot. Players try to run up a stack with wild plays, knowing very well that if they fail, they can just re-enter as many times as they want.
Evidently, casinos are incentivized to hold events with re-entries because that way they can collect more in tournament fees. We all know that Daniel Negreanu isn’t always the most vehement protestor of a company collecting rake – this time, however, his position is quite different.
Negreanu also proposes guarantees for each event. This might not be the best timing for such an idea. Multiple events at the currently ongoing World Series of Poker Europe have failed to hit their guarantees.
The least popular item on Negreanu’s “menu” was the lack of late registration period at his imaginary events.
2-time WSOP Main Event final table finisher Ben Lamb and former poker pro Brett were both among the detractors.
Need 2 hours late reg imo

However, Daniel Negreanu stood by his convictions. He believes that no late reg will lend his tournament more of an importance.
Joe Ingram Responds
Negreanu’s post generated so much buzz on Twitter that even Joe Ingram, one of the most prominent online poker personalities, responded.
Very very good idea.
I won’t make a joke about protecting the recreationals from the parasitical regulars because I like the idea so much but I do expect them to get some layer of protection from you.
— Joey Ingram #CTO 🤙🏻🤙🏻 (@Joeingram1) October 17, 2019
Ingram was in full agreement with Daniel Negreanu’s proposal. He felt this new poker tournament format would work better for the recreational players. Negreanu also thinks that the abolition of re-entries would be more beneficial for players who aren’t professional.
Daniel Negreanu got so engaged in his fantasy tournament series that he even shared a mock schedule for it with his 474,000 Twitter followers.
Two week schedule
Two day events (3 day for $10ks)

Kid Poker may not be as popular as he once was with avid poker fans. However, he’d still be a great choice for an ambassador for any new event series the poker community wants to get behind.
The casual fan of the game is more likely to be familiar with him than some of the new generation’s biggest crushers. He’s been around for decades, and was at his prime when mainstream television in America aired poker regularly. Think of Poker After Dark on NBC or High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network.
Daniel Negreanu also has an immense following on social media. He’s the most subscribed poker player on YouTube (355,000 subs). Also, he has more followers than any other poker player on Twitter.
