Daniel Negreanu Bags PGT PLO $5k title for Second Victory of 2024

Daniel Negreanu scooped his second win of the year in Las Vegas last night, defeating Anuj Agarwal heads-up to win the PGT $5k PLO title and pick up $147,500.

Daniel Negreanu PGT PLO Series

Event #3 of the 10-tournament PLO series attracted 118 entries, with 17 players set to cash from the $590,000 prizepool. By the time the field was whittled down to the paid spots, Negreanu had bagged his 8th cash of the year – more than anyone else on the PokerGO Tour.

There was even better to come for Kid Poker as he made it to his 7th final table of the year, the third unique final six of the series so far.

Coming into the final table, Lance Patel had spent more on his buy-in than he’d won in recorded tournaments. He looked set to double up when he got it all in with aces against a suited AQ, but Curtis Muller pulled out a typical PLO escape, flopping bottom pair and then turning a second pair to oust Patel in 6th spot for $29,500.

At the other end of the experience scale was Dylan Weisman, the Californian already boasting four PGT wins. However, his deep run came to an end at the hands of Negreanu, aces against a big ace again involved:

Negreanu: A A 10 3

Weisman: A K 9 8

Weisman was well behind, but the flop changed things significantly…

Flop: J 10 5

…then the turn evened things up again…

Turn: K

The river, though, sent Weisman out in 5th spot for $38,350…

River: 3

Canada’s Curtis Muller needed to ladder up a couple of spots for his biggest-ever cash, but he ran jacks into Agarwal’s aces and, despite flopping a flush draw, couldn’t hit any of the outs he required.

Down to just three, and Bruno Furth was looking for a maiden win, having shown promise with an 8th spot finish at the WPT World Championship at the Wynn late last year.

All-in and at risk, he flopped top two, but Anuj Agarwal had flopped trips and then sealed Furth’s fate with a turned full house, 3rd place and $64,900 for Furth as consolation.

Heads-up was a tough affair, Negreanu needing to fight back from a chip deficit, which he did when he flopped top two, and Agarwal missed a monster 20 outs on the river!

Negreanu: Q J 7 5

Agarwal: Q 8 6 4

Flop: J 10 5

Turn: 7

River: A

The very next hand saw Kid Poker finish his opponent off to lift his second title of the year…
