Daniel “Jungleman” Cates asks if poker players on Twitter should talk politics, calls out Daniel Negreanu

The internet is full of opinionated poker players. You’ll find most of their “hot takes” on the social media platform Twitter.

They often weigh in on the current events of the poker world. However, there are a number of high profile players who aren’t shy about sharing their thoughts on issues unrelated to poker as well. The favorite topics are usually politics, cryptocurrency and fitness.

The Most Political Poker Players on Twitter

The most controversial subject of those is evidently politics.

Many poker players on Twitter like to take jabs at the current president of the United States, Donald Trump. Daniel Negreanu is certainly one of them. The Canadian poker pro even went as far as to take an infamous photo with Trump’s 2016 election rival, Hillary Clinton.

Former biggest live tournament earner, Justin Bonomo also likes to talk politics. Based on his tweets, he is clearly what is colloquially termed as “an SJW” – he supports the neo-Marxist ideology of social justice, fighting for the supposedly oppressed groups in the modern West.

There are famous poker players on social media from the other side of the political aisle as well.

Doyle Brunson is a Christian and conservative. Given the fact that he’s an 82-year-old white man from Texas, nothing could be less surprising than that. Mike Matusow is a big Trump supporter who is also very active on Twitter.

However, all this partisanship in the non-political world of poker is understandably annoying to some. Looking at his latest tweets, Daniel “Jungleman” Cates may be one of them.

Daniel “Jungleman” Cates Questions if Poker Players on Twitter Should Talk About Other Topics

Jungleman polled his audience on when they think it’s appropriate for poker players on Twitter to talk about issues outside of poker.

Over 2,600 votes have been cast. Here are the results.

The clear winner out of the four options was “Whenever, we are free!” with 56% of the votes.

The polls also drew a lot of famous players to respond. Scott Seiver, Joe Ingram and Brian Rast all jumped in the thread to share their 2 cents on the question.

Just like most people, they did not have any objections to a poker player expressing themselves on Twitter. The general consensus was that as long as they’re authentic, they have the right to say whatever they want, even if they anger some people from time to time.

Daniel “Jungleman” Cates followed up with a post that is probably a friendly tease directed at Daniel Negreanu.

Or is he actually annoyed with the antics that “Kid Poker” likes to engage in on the internet? One thing is for sure: the called out Daniel Negreanu hasn’t replied yet.
