Santiago “Come2Brazil” Plante bagged the perfect New Year’s Eve gift this week, scooping the GGMillion$ SHR for $260,765 to almost double his winnings in the weekly biggie on GGPoker.
Some 156 entries from the weekend had been whittled down to just nine contenders for the traditional Tuesday night final table showdown, the $10k tournament offering up $1,560,000.
The destination of more than $1million of that was still to be decided, with Spain’s Juan Pardo Dominguez, the anonymous Russian crusher “kolayruss1978”, and Bulgaria’s Alex Kulev in the line-up.
Dublin-based Kulev was first to depart, running one of the shortest stacks and pocket sixes into his nearest geographical rival, Andrew Wilson, with pocket kings.
Wilson was also responsible for Tkatschew’s exit in 8th spot…
Wilson: 10♥ 10♣
Tkatschew: K♦ Q♦
Flop: 5♦ J♥ 4♠
Turn: 8♥
River: 5♥
“Poker’s Worst Setup” Hand
Pardo Dominguez is GGPoker’s second most winningest GGMillion$ SHR player with close to $8million. He showed what you need to do to get there by KO’ing Borovkov, although poker looks easy when your aces hold up at critical moments…
“This is poker’s worst setup and it just always feels horrible,” was Mike Sowers’ take in the commentary booth, with weekly livestream host Jeff Gross in agreement.
Vladimir Minko, playing out of Mexico, must have thought his luck was in when he flopped top two when all-in and at risk against Pardo Dominguez, but there was a nasty twist round the corner…
Minko: K♥ J♦
Dominguez: A♥ Q♥
Flop: 4♦ K♠ J♠
Turn: 10♥
River: 3♣
Wilson then took out Brazil’s Silva in 5th spot, A♣ 9♣ too good for KJo, and that meant we were into the six-figure payouts.
There are few strong and anonymous players left these days, one of them – Anton “WhatIfGod” Bergstrom – outing himself after a deep run in Prague recently.
Russia’s “kolayruss1978” is still a mystery and last night he fell in 4th spot, again to Wilson, when his J♦ 10♦ couldn’t catch pocket jacks with the final jack on the flop.
Unfortunately for Wilson, his deep run wouldn’t end in victory, all his chips going in on the turn against Santiago “Come2Brazil” Plante, but the card gods turning a blind eye to his needs…
Heads-up for the win – and no deal-making – and it was “Come2Brazil (aka Santiago Plante) with a slight edge in chips, which Dominguez, despite his best efforts, couldn’t quite bridge.
Cracking Aces for the Win
The final hand, when it appeared, didn’t look like it had finale written all over it…
Dominguez: A♣ A♥
Plante: 4♦ 6♥
Plante called Dominguez’s button raise pre…
Flop: 2♠ 6♣ 10♣
…and then check called both flop and turn…
Turn: Q♥
With an SPR of just under1, Dominguez jammed the river…
River: 6♦
…but Plante had got there and also landed his first GGMillion$ title, while Dominguez will have to wait a little longer for his 5th crown.
