The American was the last man standing after a 2,229 player field was depleted player-by-player to leave him with a $667,963 first place prize.

It was notably a tough event with plenty of stars littering the line-up. And when the final 23 players arrived this morning, there were 11 bracelets held by previous winners, including form man Nacho Barbero.

Final Action

The action resumed with a bang, seeing several players double-up and bust out before the final two tables were formed.

The intensity didn’t subside as players adjusted to new surroundings when several more players left the event to make an official final table.

And then there was complete calm. It took a few hours before anyone else ran out of chips when Bulgaria’s Ivan Stankov ended up on the wrong side of a coinflip.

Gonzalo Almada and Peter Park were next before Robinson then went on the rampage ending the tournaments of Akshat Bajaj, Barry Shulman and Vitalijs Zavorotnijs one after the other.

John Reiter tried to halt Robinson’s progress but nothing was going to work at this stage. Fifteen minutes later, Carl Shaw had also joined the list of also-rans and the American was champion.

Speaking to the media, Robinson said:

“The biggest feeling is definitely relief. I came into the day fifth in chips and started out very poorly… Crap if I get out of the final two tables without making the final table it’ll be a little tragic. I’m gonna play my best and whatever happens happens. Today, I guess, was my day.”
