High stakes tournament smasher Chance Kornuth revealed the start date of his upcoming Galfond Challenge match. The 34-year-old American will be lining up as the latest challenger to try and dethrone Phil Galfond on September 16th.
Can Chance Kornuth Succeed?
Chance Kornuth is no mug when it comes to squaring up against the world’s best poker players. The Colorado native has a history of crushing wherever he plays.
A tidy $7,447,005 worth of live tournament winnings is just the start. He also has two World Series of Poker gold bracelets and recently came close to a WSOP 2020 Circuit Online victory.
Phil Galfond is undefeated so far in the series of showdowns. An incredible comeback against VeniVidi1993 is one of the greatest sights we have ever seen in the history of online poker. After being over €900,000 down he seized victory by a miniscule €1,671.58
Ioannis ActionFreak Kontonatsios didn’t stand a chance. Galfond stretched his legs early and was never behind after the first 1,000 hands.
Game On for Kornuth
Looking at what we already know, this should be an amazing match to watch. Kornuth is playing a lot online right now to keep himself sharp and is guaranteed to be in great shape come September.
Kornuth said,
“Yeah, we actually finalized recently and have a penalty in place if one of us is unable to start on the date we’ve now agreed upon, which is Sept. 16,”
One of his WSOP gold bracelets is from a $5,000 PLO event in 2010 showing he has what it takes to play this game at the top level.
The match between Kornuth and Galfond will be 35,000 hands of heads-up PLO. The stakes will be €100-€200 with a side bet of €1 million to Kornuth’s €250,000 on the final result.
We thought the 25,000 hands played against VeniVidi1993 was plenty long enough, so this should be a real treat.
It will also be a factor that Kornuth had the chance to observe the first two matches with many clues on his thought process and strategy.
“It is nice to have information about his game and really seeing how he’s been playing, which will help me with my decisions,”
For now, Kornuth will be preparing intensely for the showdown as well as his long overdue final table at the 2020 World Poker Tour Gardens Poker Championship $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event.
He isn’t happy with the fact that his opponents have the chance to improve a lot while he is already close to peak performance with little left to go.
