Brazil’s Bruno Volkmann was the star of the show last night, scooping the weekly GGMillion$ SHR for a whopping $357,739 and passing the $15million earnings milestone on GGPoker.
With 176 entries it was the biggest of the weekly $10k MTTs for a while, the prizepool set at $1,760,000 and six 6-figure payouts up top.
As always, Jeff Gross was in charge of the livestreamed final table commentary, joined this week by Marcelo Tadeu Aziz, third in Brazil’s all-time live moneywinners list after an epic runner-up finish at the WSOP Paradise Main Event last month.
Coming into the final table of nine, Israel’s Barak Wisbrod led the way with a 90BB stack, with his countryman Garbi and Russia’s Viktor Ustimov the shorties on about 15 bigs.
Indeed, Ustimov (with pocket nines against Filatov’s A♥ K♥) and Garbi (Q♣ 9♣ against Filatov’s K♥ J♦ ) both fell quickly, followed to the rail by Estonia’s Ottomar Ladva.
Ladva found himself all-in with the worst hand facing not one but two opponents…
Ladva: A♣ 9♣
Filatov: A♥ J♣
Volkmann 8♣ 8♠
Flop: 2♠ 5♦ Q♣
Turn: 6♥
Volkmann’s turn bet was called by Filatov but the river changed nothing…
River: 5♣
Check-check meant goodbye Ladva and hello guaranteed 6-figure cash for the remaining six players.
Minko’s exit in 6th spot was quite something, first losing rivering two pair to lose half his stack against Volkmann’s turned flush, then getting the rest all-in against Bernardino only to see this brutal flop… game over!
Filatov must have had similar good thoughts when he flopped a full house against Wisbrod…
Filatov: 7♣ 7♦
Flop: J♣ J♦ 7♠
Turn: 9♠
River: K♠
…but when his river raise was met by an all-in he must have had serious doubts. Was he facing the nutflush? A bigger full house? Quads like Minko? He made the call anyway only to get the bad news…
Wisbrod J♥ 9♥
When Bernardino lost an all-Brazilian race against Volkmann to exit in 4th, we had our podium trio. For Bogdanov that’s as far as things would go, getting his 20BBs in good against Wisbrod only to get outflopped.
Heads-up then, Wisbrod held a more than 2:1 chip lead over Volkmann and what followed was a topsy-turvey affair. First the Brazilian took over the lead, then the Israeli fought back, and when stacks were almost equal the inevitable happened, Wisbrod at risk…
That gave victory, $357,739 and a 3rd GGMillion$ title to Bruno Volkmann whose total GGPoker winnings passed the $15million milestone with his win.
