Bookies favour Phil Hellmuth over Daniel Negreanu in heads-up match – Doug Polk bets big on DNegs

Doug Polk bets all his money on Daniel Negreanu beating Phil Hellmuth

The ultimate heads-up match between Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth is set to go ahead and the bookmakers sursprisingly favour Phil Hellmuth over Daniel Negreanu, while Doug Polk bets all his money on DNegs after playing him over several months in High Stakes Feud.

The next highstakes heads-up match

As we revealed just a few days ago, Kid Poker wasn’t best pleased when his longtime poker buddy publicly slated his strategy in the Polk Grudge match.

That led DNegs to counter: “Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched “zero” of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play. I’ll play you a heads-up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like. Wanna play big guy?”

The answer wasn’t slow in arriving, with Hellmuth obviously buoyed by his recent $350k drubbing of Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari in their highstakes duel.

Canadian poker legend Negreanu, despite his huge $1.2million loss against Polk, a match we covered extensively and you can relive the big finale here, is looking forward to another big showdown.

Negreanu and Hellmuth weren’t the only ones desperate to see some highstakes action…

…although the betting line on a Hellmuth-Negreanu battle had a lot of poker fans confused, and the initial great odds on a DNegs’ victory soon had the market locked. The clever money piling in on Negreanu had Hellmuth worried…

Daniel Negreanu heavily improved

It seems that most poker fans, whether Negreanu fans or otherwise, understand just how much the GGPoker ambassador’s heads-up game improved in the recent Grudge Match.

Polk himself was full of praise for his opponent, this video explaining the evolution from heads-up newbie to GTO reg status…

We don’t yet know when the big match will take place. But in the meantime, Daniel Negreanu was brushing up on another of his big loves – chess.

Although still a relative newcomer to the game, Negreanu has had coaching from 5-time US champion and international Grandmaster, Hikaru Nakamura.

That stood him in good stead in his opening match win in the chess.com PogChamps tournament, taking out TwitchTV gamer and streamer, “pokimane”.

Poker and chess have long had a big crossover element, with the likes of Mike McDonald, Dan Smith, and Dan Harrington all fine chess players.

From the chess side, Daniel’s ‘coach’ Hikaru Nakamura has played the WSOP and is currently world champion of Choker, an online game that combines chess and poker.

One of the strongest players to combine both games is Jennifer Shahade, the chess International Master also boasting a decade and a half of poker cashes. That includes a €100,000 scoop of the Open-Face Chinese Poker World Championship High Roller in 2014.
