A Twitter spat has occurred over Americas Cardroom (ACR) staff enquiring about betting on the High Stakes Deathmatch between Bill Perkins and Landon Tice. Matt Berkey made public a What’s App chat log showing discussion over the conflict of interest, but in the end both Perkins and Tice ended the debate by declaring their full support for the leading US-facing site. Watch the highlights of last night’s match below!
Landon Tice and Bill Perkins played their fourth session over 334 hands last night and Perkins booked a $44,262 profit, which brings the total to +$53,698 from the point of view of Landon Tice.

Bill Perkins and Landon Tice More Than Happy to Play their HU Deathmatch on ACR
The issue started when somebody identified only as “Mel” enquired if there was a sportsbook offering wagers on the match. “Andre RIU” immediately flagged that as a “gigantic conflict of interest”, citing concerns over ACR’s security when it has a betting interest. Especially when they have full access to each player’s playing data.
This is obviously somebody jumping to conclusions because why would anybody with bad intentions let anybody know what their plan was? It’s just not likely at all.
Americas Cardroom CEO Phil Nagy Tells it How it Is
ACR CEO Phil Nagy came into the conversation to calm down any worries and stated:
“To rephrase: people are asking us where they can book some action. OBV I could have a line out in a few minutes and IMO that would be worrysome.”
Nagy then reiterated that the What’s App chat would be the last place he would enquire if they had any malicious intent.
Andre RIU then clarifies that he isn’t making any accusations and only wants to produce a system where fraud cannot even exist.
(2/2)After much deliberation both sides have agreed there’s minimal downside to continuing the match on @ACR_POKER, but also that this information should be made public, for the betting community, to ensure full transparency.
The match will continue, as planned, at 4 pm PT Today pic.twitter.com/HOrNczxvbS— Matt Berkey (@berkey11) June 5, 2021
As the conversation tails off it’s easy to feel how passionate Phil Nagy is towards his site, as he states that he was just trying to point interested parties in the right direction to have a bet; nothing more. It’s not an ACR team trying to profit, even honestly.

Landon Tice Speaks Up for ACR and the Match Goes On
Landon Tice was quick to tweet his thoughts on this little spat and explained that nobody thinks that there were any malicious intentions. That was certainly just social media being what it is.
“Do we think anything is happening? No. Of course not”
“Let me make something very clear about this. Both sides of the challenge, being Bill Perkins, MJ Gonzales and I all thought that this was important to relay was a potential hiccup in the overall “integrity” of the match. Do we think anything is happening? No. Of course not. That’s why we’re still playing and going forward with the match. But to say that this was a one-sided attack on the situation, what happened, and all of the above is just completely false. So end of the day, we wanted to make clear that we thought this was a little bit out of line, but at the end of the day, we’re going forward with the match without any hiccups or delays.“
It sounds as if Matt Berkey has taken a bit of a hammering for making this all public. The integrity of ACR has never been in doubt and it’s definitely unfair to make a clumsy declaration knowing that uninformed people could think otherwise.
