Action picked up considerably in High Stakes Poker Season 9 Episode 2 with Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey and JRB all playing massive pots. Watch the best hands and biggest pots below!
Phenomenal Lineup
James Bord and Influencer Kim “LetsGiveItASpin” Hultman exit and JRB and Jonathan Gibbs take over their seats:
- Phil Ivey
- Tom Dwan
- Daniel Negreanu
- Doyle Brunson
- Patrik Antonius
- Jean-Robert Bellande
- Koray Aldemir
- Jonathan Gibbs
Phil Ivey hits his monster draw vs. DNegs – $118,700 Pot
Phil Ivey raises to $1,200 with Q♦10♦, Doyle Brunson calls from the Hijack with A♦7♦ and DNegs calls from the big blind holding 6♠6♣. Pot Size: $4,200
3-handed to a spicy flop of 5♥K♦5♦, which gives both Ivey and Brunson a flush draw and Daniel Two Pair. Phil makes a $2,500 continuation bet, Doyle calls and Negreanu decides to make a play by raising to $7,500.
Ivey calls and Brunson folds the nut flush draw, which is an absolutely incomprehensible and way too tight fold after the action so far, even if he gives Daniel credit for a Five. Pot Size: $21,700
The J♠ on the turn gives Ivey a monster draw. Phil checks and DNegs fires a $12,500 second barrel. Ivey has two options here raise or call. It seems like he is putting Daniel on a Five and just calls. Pot Size: $46,700
The 8♦ brings one of Ivey’s many outs and he checks over to Negreanu again. Daniel actually does have a pretty easy check behind here, since he does have some showdown value and the front flush draw hit, but decides to pull the trigger and finish his story of the big hand instead.
He makes a large $36,000 bet (77%) pot and, although the board is paired and Ivey “only” has the Queen-high flush draw, this is an easy call. Ivey agrees and wins a big $118,700 pot from his buddy DNegs.
JRB gets lucky for once – $166,300 Pot
JRB enters the High Stakes Poker arena right, when the straddle kicks up the action, so they are playing $400/$800 now.
Ivey open-raises UTG 7♦5♦ to $2,500, JRB just calls with 10♥10♦ and Patrik Antonius picks up a beautifully-looking A♠K♠ in the straddle.
He makes it $10,800 to go with only $70,000 behind, Ivey folds and JRB puts Patrik All-In, who snap-calls. It’s a classic coinflip and they are running it twice. Pot Size: $166,300
First Runout:
The first board runs out K♣8♥9♥3♠10♠ and JRB hits a miracle Two-Outer on the river after Patrik took the lead on the flop.
Second Runout:
The second runout brings 4♥6♥7♣8♦Q♣. Bellande scoops a nice $166,300 Pot and is off to a good start.
Daniel Negreanu Downs Durrrr – $228,100 Pot
The biggest pot of High Stakes Poker Season 9 Episode 2 was played between poker legends Daniel Negreanu and Tom “durrrr” Dwan.
After a $800 straddle from Ivey, Reigning WSOP Main Event Champion Koray Aldemir raised UTG to $2,100 with 7♠7♦, Dwan picks up A♠K♥ on the button and sets the trap by just calling and Daniel does indeed squeeze from the big blind to $12,700 with 8♠8♦.
Aldemir gets out of the way, not so Tom Dwan though as he announces “All you can eat”, when the action comes back to him putting Daniel All-In for $112,000.
This is not an easy call for Negreanu, but he makes it surprisingly quickly and we are off to the races in a massive pot once again. Run it twice it is:
First Runout:
The first runout is 9♣K♠3♣8♥K♣, which is an absolute dream board for Daniel as it not only brings him half the pot, but also takes away two of Dwan’s six outs.
Second Runout:
The second runout brings 5♥5♦7♣5♣6♥ and Daniel Negreanu goes 2 of 2 scooping a massive $228,100 Pot.
The biggest winner in the history of High Stakes Poker, Tom Dwan, continues to struggle in Season 9 and it will be very interesting to see, if he can get out of his hole.
