Canadian player “rivo_john” denied Volodymyr Palamar back-to-back wins in the GGMillion$ weekly SHR. The anonymous account scooped $325,957 for the win.
In a busy week for poker’s highrollers, some 150 entries appeared for the $10k buy-in staple of the online nosebleed MTT crowd, with 15 set to be paid from the $1.5million prizepool.
Among those who made the paid spots, Damian Salas (14th for $24,999) and newly-minted Coin Poker ambassador Benjamin Rolle (13th for $28,026).
By the time the final table was set, the remaining nine with $45k locked up, “rivo_john” had a staggering 150 BBs – not quite as much as the other eight combined but not far off.
Of the other eight, Brazil’s Yuri Dzivielevski and Australia’s Vietnam-based pro Johsua McCully found themselves short, as did one of three anonymous accounts, “Hotel De Paris”, playing out of Monaco.
Ukraine’s Volodymyr Palamar was riding high on the back of last week’s win, while this year’s WSOP controversy protagonist Dominik Nitsche was arguably the biggest name at the table.
When play got underway, fans could enjoy the livestream on the GGPoker YouTube channel with Jeff Gross joined by poker-loving Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven in the commentary box.
Dzivielevski and McCully both fell early, followed by their fellow short stack “Hotel De Paris”…
Palamar: A♥ J♣
“Hotel De Paris”: 7♠ 7♣
Flop: 6♠ 9♦ 10♣
Turn: A♦
River: Q♠
The other Canadian “JackJohnson9” soon found themselves on fumes, falling in 6th when Hopkins and Nitsche tag-teamed him to the rail. Hopkins himself then departed when he lost a race with AK against 6s to “rivo_john”.
Now 4-handed and the money was getting very serious indeed, $155k sewn up but more than double that up top. It was the end of the road for Wilson, who had been nursing a shortish stack for a while. When he finally got it all in, Palamar had the goods…
Nitsche’s exit in 3rd would have him spewing…
Nitsche: K♦ 9♠
Nitsche’s button min. raise off 11 BBs was only called in the big blind…
“rivo_john”: 10♥ A♠
Flop: 2♥ 2♣ Q♦
Play went min. raise, call and the turn brought a fun card…
Turn: K♣
Top pair for Nitsche and a gutshot Broadway for his opponent, and after seeing it checked back to him, the German’s third-pot bet was called…
River: J♥
Nitsche’s 40% pot all-in value bet was snapped off and we were heads-up for the title.
Play had been very quick so far and stacks of 88BBs versus 65BBs, Palamar behind, gave the players plenty of scope to be creative. As always, the deck had something to say about it all, and Palamar’s hopes of back-to-back wins were smashed by a cruel river…
Incredibly, down to just 2 BBs, Palamar fought back to a playable 20BB stack, but the cruelty returned to finish him off…
Palamar: 8♥ J♦
“rivo_john”: K♦ J♣
Flop: 9♥ Q♠ 3♣
Turn: 10♠
A worse turn card for Palamar didn’t exist, and although it took them until the river to get it all in…
River: 2♥
…there was never any doubt it was all over.
