It has been quite a week for the mystery nosebleed players hitting the headlines and last night saw another one, with anonymous Canadian player “JackJohnson9” scooping the GGMillion$ SHR title for a $312,919 payday.
The weekly nosebleed $10k MTT on GGPoker may have been missing a few names due to the ongoing Triton Poker SHR Series in Monte Carlo, but there were still plenty of online beasts prowling the tables, although Francesco “forzaitalia” Garofalo won’t be among them for the foreseeable future after his high profile DQ!
The 130 entries produced a $1.3million prizepool, with five 6-figures cashes at the top of the pile. By the time the final table of nine was set, $43,296 was locked up.
Among them, Poland’s Maksim Vaskresenski and Israel’s Ravid Garbi, who finished second and third in last week’s tournament and would be looking for the win this time.
Brazilian BustOuts
There would be no Brazilian podium spot, though, as first Bruno Bertalia, and then his compatriot Felipe Ketzer, bowed out, and they were followed to the paydesk by “songu227”.
A blind-on-blind cooler saw the Japanese player trying to trap by just calking, but of course all the chips ended up in the middle pre anyway…
songu227: 10♦ 10♣
Ravid Garbi: A♥ K♣
Flop: A♣ Q♣ 7♠
Turn: 5♦
River: Q♦
The next bustout was a horrible beat for Hong Kong player ‘splendens’, who departed in 6th spot after a rivered queen appeared, although $90,901 is pretty sweet compensation…
Vaskresenski’s hopes of back-to-back podium finishes were ended when he ran pocket nines into the kings of the Russian, and then Arends (perhaps the betting favourite) hit the rail in spectacular fashion…
All-in pre-flop, the anonymous Canadian would have been left on fumes if the flop was all that happened…
Arends: A♦ 5♦
JackJohnson9: A♥ K♦
Flop: 4♥ 5♣ 9♥
…but the saved the day…
Turn: K♣
River: 8♠
Ravid Garbi fell in third for the second consecutive week, again ‘JackJohnson9’ doing the job, and it only took two hands to decide heads-up.
‘JackJohnson9’ raised from the button, his opponent 3-bet and then snapped off the Canadian account’s 4-bet shove.
“This could be nasty!” was Jeff Gross’ take in the commentary booth alongside Eugene Katchalov. “This could flip the script pretty quickly.” In fact, it ended the script almost immediately with a seven on the flop.
“I should watch more of these final tables, especially before playing myself,” said Katchalov afterwards.
“You pick up a lot, you learn a lot and it inspires you to practice and try this stuff in your own game. I definitely encourage others to do the same.”
