Andras Nemeth and Lex VeldhuisShine as SCOOP 2024 Heats Up

Andras “probirs” Nemeth and Lex “L. Veldhuis” Veldhuis have been topping the headlines at this year’s SCOOP (Spring Championship of Online Poker) on PokerStars. Nemeth scored a big double this week while Veldhuis bagged his maiden SCOOP title.

The SCOOP schedule – 128 events in each of 3 buy-in levels: High, Low and Medium – is a must-play for many online players and this year’s $75million GTD edition is almost at the halfway point.

Andras Nemeth does the PKO Double

As usual, the big names have been at the forefront of the “High” level, with Samuel “€urop€an” Vousden bagging his 5th title and Adrian “Amadi_017” Mateos his 6th title.

Nemeth, however, went one better – securing two wins totalling over $100k.

First up, event #55-H, the $1050 buy-in 7-max PKO, which he took down for $47,219, followed shortly afterwards by event #52-H, the $2100 buy-in PLO 6-max PKO, a $58,592 SCOOP scoop, which included an impressive $36,625 in bounties.

Nemeth, now on four SCOOP wins, is still some way short of Benny Glaser’s record 10 SCOOP titles (along with 15 WCOOP wins!) and Glaser is at another final table as you read this, looking for an 11th title in the SCOOP 60-H: $1,050 Razz.

Lex Veldhuis breaks his SCOOP duck

At the other end of the scale, we have the long-standing trials and travails of PokerStars ambassador and popular streamer Lex Veldhuis searching for a first SCOOP title (or a WCOOP win for that matter) and this week saw the Dutch pro finally get there.

Veldhuis not only broke his duck, but he did it in style by taking down event #41-H, the $5K buy-in Titans event. That involved beating a 128-entry field of the biggest and best, winning $140,279 for his efforts.

Describing himself as “the worst player at the table” when it came down to the nitty-gritty of the final table, Veldhuis admitted:

“I would have been super happy to win an $11 SCOOP. But I also got a big prize and it was against the best competition in the world. I really maxxed out.”

Veldhuis added another positive factor in a PokerStars blog interview: “…when pros watch the stream it means a lot. It means they’re grinding and they have the stream open and it’s something they think enhances their grind. It’s a huge compliment and I love hearing from top regs that they watch the stream. It felt great.”
