Hand of the Week: Alan Keating Pulls Off Stunning Hero Call on High Stakes Poker

Alan Keating has produced one of the most insane hero calls ever witnessed on High Stakes Poker, leaving the poker community flabbergasted.

Alan Keating Pulls Off Stunning Hero Call on High Stakes Poker
Alan Keating

This is one of the best calls any of us have seen on a televised or streamed show in a long time.

The commentators were stunned, calling Keating a “special talent”, and five-time WSOP bracelet winner Nick Schulman saying it was “one of the coolest hands I’ve ever seen.”

Steve raised it up to $1,400 WITH 8♠ 6♣ and Peter called with 6♠ 3♠ on the button. Keating overcalled, holding 9♦ 7♦ in the big blind.

The pot was $4,800 and the flop ran out A♣ :7♠ K♠.

Keating checked his middle pair and Steve decided to fire out a bet of $4,000 with an airball bluff. He has nothing but the flop texture hits him hardest as the preflop raiser.

Even knowing this and the fact Steve still bet into more than one player, Peter throws in a raise to $13,000 with his small flush draw.

Now, with just middle pair, most viewers would have expected Keating to fold his middle pair, facing a bet and a raise, but no. Keating ramps up the pressure even more with a raise to $41,000.

Steve now does the sensible thing and mucks his hand. Peter ponders a short while and makes the call.

The turn was the 6♥ and Keating quickly bets out for $58,000. Peter now has a pair to go with his small flush draw so he could play it safe but, of course, the game of chicken continues with him snatching the initiative from Keating.

Peter raises it up to $175,000, building the pot up to $323,800. Keating keeps a stern expression on his face and doesn’t think for too long before throwing in chips to make the call.

The 4♥ river leaves Keating with the best hand as he glares across the table at Peter thinking what his next move should be. Peter decides that even though he beats hands like missed flush draws, continuing the aggression is the best course of action, putting Keating all-in for the rest of his $235,000 behind.

By now the commentators are seriously impressed that Keating made it this far, describing the hand as one of the best they’ve ever seen. Keating himself begins to murmur that this is either one of the best or the worst hands he’s ever played, but he’s not sure which…

After a minute or two in the tank, Keating sighs and throws chips into the middle to indicate he’s calling. Peter can do nothing more than laugh to himself an amazement that his opponent saw through him and made that call for a pot of $911,000.

Fantastic bravery from Alan Keating there and kudos to him for trusting his instincts when the pressure was on.
