Daniel Negreanu has revealed that he lost more than $2,000,000 at the poker tables in 2023, making it the worst year of his long poker career to date.
The loss reached a grand total of $2,228,174, much more than anything the Canadian has experienced before. In fact, during his entire playing career, Daniel Negreanu has only had a single losing year and one almost break-even.
In the video above, Negreanu reveals that his biggest cash was only $124,000, with only three six-figure scores coming during the year, and one of those was in a $50,000 super high roller event.

Below are Daniel Negreanu’s exact poker results 2023:
Aging is starting to take its toll as he approaches his fifties and the stamina likely isn’t what it used to be.
Incredibly, he played 145 events last year. From 2013 to 2018, he played more than 70 tournaments only once, with two years not even breaking 50.
And then from 2019 he ramped up his program significantly to what he now believes is unsustainable levels.
One interesting point that Negreanu highlighted was his $3.3 million victory at the end of 2022 in the $300,000 PGT Super High Roller Bowl VII. Without this score, that would have been another heavy losing year.
Because of this important save, he feels that he started off this year with “winner’s tilt”. This caused way too many sessions playing a sub-standard level.
2023 was a great year for me personally, not so much professionally
I may have an odd brain, but losing excites me
Losing leads to learning and breakthroughs
Losing motivates me to be better
Losing is an opportunity to look in the mirror and decide what you are made of
I…

For 2024, Daniel Negreanu says he will change a lot to ensure this doesn’t happen again. And one major change will be no longer going for the WSOP title; this will be controversial for some after he called it a broken system.
