Top 3 Spin and Go Strategy Tips to Skyrocket Through the Stakes!

In our latest poker strategy article Beldarion the founder of Team Bas Poker explains the Top 3 Spin and Go Strategy Tios to skyrocket through the stakes.

Welcome to the world of Spin and Go Strategy, fellow VIP-Grinders! I’m Beldarion, a founder and head coach at Team Bas Poker. In this article, I’m excited to share with you my top three Spin and Go strategy tips, the very insights that propelled me from low to high stakes. I was always a slow learner and i considered myself as an avarage poker player. It took me many years to achieve what others achieved sometimes in only a couple of months. I hit many walls and was stuck at certain limits where others simply rushed through.

What did I do wrong? What did others do that I didn’t? I studied a lot. More than most players I know, but the results simply weren’t as good as I wished. Until that one day where everything changed. I started understanding the game deeply. I learned fast and efficiently, and that felt great! I was unstoppable. I rushed through the 30s and 60s and found myself battling the toughest regs on the $100 stakes. What changed on that one day? Don’t worry, I will share everything I learned on that day with you today!

#1 Spin and Go Strategy: the 3-Step Learning Model

You can apply this concept to every spot and every poker format. I always had a good feel for how to exploit certain types of opponents, but I lacked a deep understanding of the game’s theory. As soon as I started applying these three steps everywhere, my entire understanding of the game changed.

Step 1: Understand GTO Solutions

Game Theory Optimal (GTO) solutions provide a robust foundation for your poker strategy. They represent the most mathematically sound plays in various situations. Knowing GTO solutions helps you understand the “why” behind certain plays and provides a baseline strategy.

Step 2: Identify Population Tendencies

The next step is to observe and understand how your opponents deviate from GTO. Most players, especially at lower stakes, will have certain tendencies and patterns in their gameplay. Recognizing these deviations allows you to adjust your strategy to exploit common mistakes.

Step 3: Master Powerful Exploits

The final step is to develop and apply exploits that take advantage of the specific weaknesses in your opponents’ strategies. This requires a balance between theory and practice. You need to be flexible in your approach, adapting to the unique dynamics of each game.

#2 Prioritize High-Impact Learning

Focusing on the most frequent spots in the game is a highly efficient way to improve your win rate. As a Spin & Go player, you should prioritize mastering preflop and flop play. These stages occur in every hand and have a significant impact on your overall performance.

Solid Preflop Strategy

A strong preflop strategy sets the tone for the rest of the hand. You need to be well-versed in various preflop charts and understand the reasons behind different opening ranges, 3-bet ranges, and calling vs. folding decisions.

Dominating the Flop

The flop is where the texture of the hand starts to take shape. Concentrate on learning flop textures, continuation betting strategies, and how to play in different pot sizes and positions.

Basic Knowledge of Turn and River

While it’s crucial to have a fundamental understanding of turn and river play, as a beginner, you can initially focus less on these streets. Once you’re comfortable with preflop and flop play, gradually integrate more advanced turn and river strategies into your learning.

#3 Focus only on One or Two Leaks at a Time

Many players fall into the trap of spreading their focus too wide by trying to cover too many topics at once. To maximize learning efficiency:

Avoid Over-Marking Hands

While marking tough hands for review is helpful, avoid marking too many. Concentrate on hands that represent common situations you’ll face frequently.

Tackle Manageable Chunks

Limit your focus to one or two specific sleaks at a time. Deep dive into these areas, fully understand them, and then move on to the next topic. This focused approach prevents you from feeling overwhelmed and ensures a deeper understanding of each element of the game. And even more importantly, you will be able to actually apply these concepts at the table.
