Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
Bluff gone wrong! Let’s try to find out why?
The preflop action is intense. After Charles makes a very loose UTG raise with 7h4h, Airball attacks the open with a 3-bets from the button holding Kh9h.
Ryan Feldman reads the situation and that Nik Airball wants to steal correctly and therefore goes for the cold 4-bet.
Charles quickly folds, but Airball plays back at him with a 5-bet and Ryan makes the call! Just like that there are $67,600 in the pot.
Absolute dream scenario for Nik, who flops a Straight Flush on jh10hQh in a 5-bet pot with K9s.
Ryan Feldman doesn’t have a heart and just has a gutshot, so he checks. Airball goes for a tiny cbet of only 15% pot, which is intended to induce a bluff. Nice bet by Nik, but Ryan check-calls instead.
The 7c on the turn is a blank and Feldman checks for a second time. Nik Airball tries once again to induce with a small second barrel sizing of 26% pot and this time it works!
Ryan check-raises to $80,000 and commits himself, since he has only $67,900 behind and there is already $193,600 in the pot. Nik obviously just calls with the Nuts.
The 5h on the turn completes the one-card flush. Feldman shoves and gets snap-called by the Nuts. Ryan is disgusted, while Nik Airball wins a huge $383,400 pot.
Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion
Flopping a Straight Flush is one thing, but getting paid with such a strong hand is even more difficult.
Nik Airball played the hand perfectly with two very small bets on flop and turn inducing a stone-cold bluff by Ryan Feldman, who only has a gutshot and no heart in his hand.
This hand is a great example, while small continuation bets or second barrells in certain spots are better than big bets as they can induce a bluff.
