Poker Hand of the Week Action
A♦5♥4♥3♠
Preflop:
Doug Polk raises to $2,000 from UTG+1 with Q♦Q♣ and Andrew Robl 3-bets to $7,000 from the cut-off holding A♣4♣. It folds to Patrik Antonius in the straddle, who makes the call with 10♥10♣.
When the action comes back to Doug he 4-bets to $28,000 and both Robl and Antonius call. Pot Size: $84,800
Flop:
3-way to the action flop of 8♣Q♦9♣, which gives Polk Top Set and Robl the Nut Flush Draw. It is however Patrik Antonius, who leads for $30,000 with his gutshot and Doug just calls causing an All-In shove by Robl for $254,300.
Patrik gets out of the way, but Polk obviously snap-calls with Top Set. There is an incredible $613,400 in the pot and they run it twice!
- First Runout: The first board brings 10♥ and A♦, securing Polk half of the pot.
- Second Runout: Robl needs a Club, but the 6♠ and 4♠ are of no help and Doug Polk scoops a massive $613,400 Pot.
Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
Huge pot and very interesting hand. Let’s do an in-depth analysis.
Doug’s preflop raise with Pocket Queens is obviously standard and Robl’s 3-bet with Ac4c a typical GTO solver play as the solvers love to 3-bet in position with a Suited Ace as you can win the pot right here or if you get called you still can make the Nut Flush and Straight.
Patrik Antonius then picks up Pocket Tens in the straddle and he understandably calls. When the action comes back to Doug, he comes back over the top with a 4x raise to $28,000. Andrew Robl decides to gamble and see a flop in position and Patrik now gets great odds to setmine, so he calls as well.
3-way to a very interesting flop of 8cQd9c, which has something for everyone. Patrik is a big underdog with only 10% winning probability, but he nevertheless decides to lead for 35% Pot ($30,000). This lead is actually the reason why this pot got so big.
Doug now sets the trap by just calling and slow playing Top Set and it pays off, since Andrew shoves All-In for $254,300 total with his Nut Flush Draw and overcard. Antonius now has an easy fold and Doug snap-calls.
They decide to Run It Twice and Doug is a big 3 to 1 favourite. Robl needs a club and a club only but neither the first nor the second board brings one and Doug Polk wins the biggest pot in the history of Big Bet Poker.
Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion
As mentioned above, the reason why Polk and Robl got it in on the flop was Patrik’s donk bet on the flop followed by a beautiful slowplay by Polk.
With $144,800 already in the middle and $256,300 behind, Robl decides to go for a big semi-bluff to put maximum pressure on his opponents.
This is a great play when being heads-up, since you have a lot of fold equity, but 3-handed I would have preferred a call as you are getting a very good price to draw to the Nuts and the risk that one of your opponents has a very strong hand on this wet board, which he can’t fold is simply too high.
This is exactly the case here as Top Set is obviously a fist-pump call and Polk’s hand holds up twice securing him a huge $613,400 Pot.
