The Godfather of Poker Doyle Brunson has died last night at the age of 89. May the biggest poker legend of our times, who won 10 WSOP bracelets and the WSOP Main Event back to back in 1976 and 1977 rest in peace.

Brian Balsbaugh, Doyle Brunson‘s agent, posted the sad news on Twitter with a message from the Brunson family.
“It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our father, Doyle Brunson. He was a beloved Christian man, husband, father and grandfather. We’ll have more to say over the coming days as we honor his legacy. Please keep Doyle and our family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.” Sincerely, the Brunson Family.”
Doyle Brunson won 10 WSOP Bracelets
“Texas Dolly,” as he was known throughout his career, was one of poker’s original stars. Although already having more than two decade’s experience, Brunson was one of the characters responsible for the game’s popularisation throughout the seventies.
During his career he won 10 WSOP gold bracelets, including the WSOP Main Event in 1976 and 1977.

Doyle Brunson wrote the legendary poker book Super System
Doyle Brunson’s book on poker strategy, Super System was an epic piece of work that gave amateur players their first glimpse into how an elite player thinks about the game.
The iconic book along with Super System 2 was still at the forefront of poker study when the poker boom kicked off in 2003. A truly timeless classic.
For his contribution to the game, Doyle Brunson was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame and was an ambassador for the World Poker Tour.
Doyle Brunson’s passing leaves a huge hole in the poker world. He was the most recognisable player in the world and we will never see again the likes of his legendary career.
