We are on the final day and second highest blind level of $1,000/$2,000 with a $2,000 big blind ante. Patrik Antonius has almost $2,000,000 standing in front of him and has Andrew Robl easily covered

Poker Hand of the Week Action

Preflop:

Eric Persson limps UTG with J♥2♥ and Patrik Antonius raises to $10,000 with 9♦9♣ on the button. Andrew Robl picks up a nice-looking J♣10♣  in the big blind and squeezes to $52,000.

Patrik calls and just like that there is already a staggering $109,000 in the pot preflop!

Flop:

Heads-up to an action flop of Q♠9♥8♠, which gives Robl the Stone Cold Nuts, while Patrik flops middle set!

Andrew Robl makes a continuation bet of $65,000 into $109,000 (60% pot) and Antonius just calls. Pot Size: $239,000

Turn:

The 3♠ on the turn is interesting since it is a scare card for both with the frontdoor flush draw coming in.

Robl fires a second barrel of $140,000 into $239,000 and Patrik calls once again. Pot Size: $519,000

River:

The river is the 4, which doesn’t change anything. Robl makes a value bet of $375,000 into $519K (72% pot).

Patrik goes into the tank for 30 seconds and then flicks in the call just to see that he got coolered, while Andrew Robl wins one of the biggest cash game pots of all time worth a whopping $1,269,000.

Poker Hand of the Week Analysis

Let’s have an in-depth look at one of the biggest televised poker cash game pots of all time.

The base for this huge pot is build preflop, when Patrik isolates the limper with Pocket Nines. Robl reads it as weakness and tries to pick up the dead money with a 4-bet out of the big blind. Patrik’s hand is too strong to fold and so they see a flop.

Cooler alert on the flop, which gives Andrew the Nuts and Patrik middle set. Since the flop is very draw-heavy, Robl understandably chooses a bigger cbet sizing of 60% pot. Patrik can both call and raise here. I like the second option more in order to protect your hand from straight and flush draws, but he decides to call.

On the turn the flush draw comes in, which neither one of them likes to see. As played Antonius does have more flushes in his range, but Andrew’s hand is still strong enough to fire a second barrel. Now Antonius can only call, which is what he does.

The river is a blank and Robl has 1.5x pot behind. He elects a value bet sizing of 72% and it is a good sizing as Patrik pays it off. Antonius obviously can just call here as the only hands that would call a raise or shove are flushes and maybe a flopped straight.

Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion

This hand obviously is a big cooler after the Nuts clash with middle set on the flop in a heads-up pot of a 6-max cash game.

However, Andrew Robl does an excellent job on extracting the maximum out of his big hand by firing three barrels and choosing almost ideal bet sizes on every street.
