Bill Perkins and MJ Gonzalez are set to go toe-to-toe, or rather knee-to-toe, in a bizarre boxing prop bet that will see Perkins restricted to fighting on his knees…
Have a new prop bet with @bp22
We’re going to box BUT he has to be on his knees the whole time
12 rounds (if it lasts that long)
I’m laying 3-1I’m 5,10” 171 pounds
He’s 6,1? 185 pounds?Serious question: what’s my best strategy to win?
Who gonna win?

The poker community has seen numerous arranged fights between pros, as we will see below, but nothing has compared to the rules for Perkins vs Gonzalez.
“I think I’m gonna get crushed but it will be fun,” was Perkins’ assessment, while Gonzalez tweeted: “I’m not terribly confident. You get to conserve a considerable amount of energy the whole time. More power for the punches…”
As poker journalist Christian Zetsche responded: “Have you actually ever been remotely close to any kind of boxing? Because you either bluff massively in this reply or have no idea at all.”
Dangerous or dumb?
With Gonzalez explaining there will be no headgear, Patrick Leonard was one of those a bit concerned for the fighters’ safety, although Perkins, despite a height advantage in normal circumstances, will be doing well to land a blow above chest height.
whos the referee btw? I assume if reasonable at all they’ll stop it super early because will be seen as dangerous. In normal boxing couldn’t ever punch somebody on their knees like this.

The bizarre bout soon had poker Twitter in a frenzy, a selection of comments below:
“This is absolutely hilarious and I can’t wait for it” – Veronica Brill
“Bill is a generous guy but this is next level” – Fedor Holz
“There is literally no way you [Gonzalez] can possibly lose this” – Scott Ball
Perkins’ Prop Bet Backfires
Poker amateur Perkins is famous for his prop bets, one of which saw Antonio Esfandiari DQ’d from the PCA Main Event. The “Magician” had to lunge for 48 hours to win $50k.
In so much pain from the lunges, he decided to pee in a bottle at the table instead of using the bathroom…and was kicked out of the tournament for his troubles.
Fighting prop bets have seen Lex Veldhuis defeat Bertrand ElkY Grospelier at kickboxing, while Gus Hansen lost to Theo Jorgensen at boxing and Esfandiari beat Kevin Hart…
Kevin Hart on Instagram: “I wanna take the time to congratulate my guy Antonio Esfandiari on a amazing sparring match today. We went 3 3min rounds and both gave it…”
Meanwhile, 90% of the 3000 people who have voted on Gonzalez’ tweet think he is the favourite to win against Perkins. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
