In our Poker Hand of the Week we analyze what lead to the huge punt of Eric Persson in a $682,000 pot against YoH Viral at Live at the Bike.
Poker Hand of the Week Setup
Live at the Bike recently hosted a Super Duber High Stakes cash game, which featured Eric Persson, French superstar YoH Viral, Andy Stacks and Matt Berkey among others.
They are playing massive stakes of NL$500/$1,000/$2,000 and Yoh Viral has Eric covered at the start of our Poker Hand of the Week.
Poker Hand of the Week Action
Preflop:
Hus open-raises from the cut-off to $5,000 with A♦K♣, Eric Persson calls from the small blind with J♣8♣ as does Yoh Viral from the straddle with 10♠4♠. Pot Size: $32,000
Flop:
3-way to a flop of 2♠4♣6♠, which hits Yoh Viral hard with middle pair plus flush draw, while the other two whiff.
That doesn’t stop Eric Persson from leading out for $10,000 though. Yoh Viral quickly raises with $30,000, Hus folds and Persson makes the call with Jack-high. Pot Size: $92,000
Turn:
The 4♥ is a very good card for Yoh Viral as it makes him well-disguised Trips and it is music to his ears, when Eric Persson once again leads out for $70,000 and this time Yoh just calls. There is already a whopping $232,000 in the pot before the river!
River:
The Q♦ on the river doesn’t changes much and it doesn’t stop Eric Persson from firing either. He bets almost pot size with $225,000 and the Frenchman quickly calls to win a huge $682,000 pot.
Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
Sick hand! Let’s take an in-depth look at it.
The open-raise from Hus with AKo is pretty standard as is defending the small blind and straddle with two suited gappers.
The flop is as good as it gets for Yoh Viral’s 104s as he flops middle pair and a flush draw, while both of his opponents miss. It is Eric Persson who leads out with complete air though and the French Twitch star quickly raises 3x. Hus gets out of the way, but Eric decides to float.
The turn is another four, which is great for Yoh giving him disguised Trips and it is even better that Persson tries to represent it with a large 76% bet. Yoh Viral’s hand is strong enough to slow play and that’s what he does by just calling.
The Queen on the turn is basically a blank and Eric Persson sits there with Jack-high. He can only win the hand by betting and he goes big with a $225,000 bet, which is almost pot size.
Yoh Viral’s hand is too strong to fold though and he calls relatively quickly to win a huge $682,000 pot.
Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion
Triple Barrel Bluff goes wrong mixed with a bit of tilt pretty much sums this hand up.
Why Tilt you may ask yourself? If you watch the below video then you will see that Eric Persson lost another huge $443,500 pot to Yoh Viral just before this hand, so he was most likely still steaming and looking for revenge.
However, when Eric got raised on the flop, while holding absolute air, he should have just folded and that would have saved him more than $300,000!
