Shaun Deeb and Ryan Laplante have become embroiled in a Twitter fight in the latest excessive markup scandal. Deeb called Laplante a scammer for asking for 1.5 – 1.65 markup for the $10K WPT World Championship which the poker community appears to agree is way too high.

Ryan is definitely a great player…..but 1.5 MU…..it’s really hard to make money at that rate as an investor. Also MU is mainly used to cover the cost of expenses for travel. He lives in Vegas. This is pretty bad.

Ryan Laplante defended himself maintaining that markup should be a function of player edge which he feels is at least 1.5 in what is the biggest poker tournament outside of the WSOP Main Event this year.
Doug Polk disagreed with Laplante’s stance on markup but made it clear he has done nothing wrong. Simply put, it’s up to the investor whether to back the player or not.
“Strongly disagree, Mark-up is purely a function of market supply/demand. Investors get to choose where they invest. Sellers get to choose what price they are willing to sell at. It only gets into unethical territory if the person selling is purposefully lying to make money.”
Shaun Deeb also commented on Laplante’s logic for charging 1.65, up from 1.5, for the Day 3 flight which is huge markup and unlikely to be a profitable investment.
Laplante reckons that the final opening day flight of any event will be the softest because of increased number of satellite winners playing.
Ryan Laplante Calls Shaun Deeb a Bully
Ryan Laplante and Shaun Deeb clearly have some history given the tone of their arguments. Laplante unblocked Deeb on Twitter to let him air his views and probably wished he hadn’t bothered.
If i was scamming, why would i buy my action at the same price from @BigHuni?
This is an outright lie, and he knows it
He has harassed me many many times, and said many derogatory and untrue things, online and to me in person to my face

Laplante even said that he blocked Deeb after “years of harassment.”
Thankfully, Coherent Shaun Deeb was on hand to turn the real Shaun Deeb’s tweets into readable English.
“What did I lie about? I’ve always been up front with you. I don’t like you. I hate people like you taking advantage of people in coaching for profit while not providing the equity of skill and knowledge for what you charge. This markup is losing, all winning players know that.”
Currently, there is a negotiation going on between Deeb and Laplante for the pair to crossbook Laplante’s action. This is always a great way to settle arguments over a player’s performance.
Let’s do 10% across everything you play all year it’s very simple at 1.5 you also can xbook me 10% any event of your choosing before start

“Saying I’m scamming is deeply out of line”
Ryan Laplante responded with:
“So put up your money. I’ll buy from you this event at 1.5. I’ll also buy from you at 1.5 every event I play 10k and under for 2023. I dont give a fuck if you think I’m +ev in anything. Saying I’m scamming is deeply out of line, when you think my ROI is lower then it is.”
This should be a good long-term bet to follow in the coming months. We’ll certainly hear plenty more on this story.
