Norway’s Espen Jorstad has lifted the biggest prize in poker, taking down the 2022 World Series of Poker Main Event for $10million in cold hard cash and the most coveted gold bracelet in the game.
FACTS AND FIGURES 2022 WSOP MAIN EVENT
- Buy-in: $10,000
- Players: 1 left of 8,663
- Prize Pool: $80,782,475
- First Prize: $10,000,000
Jorstad was one of just three players left after the initial field of 8,663 hopefuls had been whittled down over 8 days of play, with $20million of the $80,782,475 prizepool still to be decided.
The remaining trio had $4million locked up, with $6million for 2nd place and the monster $10million top prize still to be decided.
Norway’s Espen Jorstad began the final day’s play with close to 100BB, double that of Aussie pro Adrian Attenborough, who himself had twice the chips of Florida-based Argentinian Michael Duek.
The players picked up where they left off last night when the UK’s John Eames fell in 4th spot, with 25 minutes remaining of Level 42 and the blinds at 1,500,000/3,000,000 with a 3,000,000 BB ante.
Duek busts early in 3rd spot for $4million
There was plenty of action straight off the bat with Jorstad applying pressure, but it was a big hand between Attenborough and Duek that saw the first casualty of the night.
The turn brought a “party card” king, giving Duek top pair in a raised pot, but it also completed Attenborough’s Broadway straight, and Duek’s aggressive river bet backfired, seeing the last of his chips go to the Aussie.
Out in 3rd spot for a $4million payday, Duek told Jeff Platt, “This was quite the experience. Definitely a lot more amazing than I thought could ever been. Just being here I’m happy and grateful for the outcome.”
The tank and the title call for Espen Jorstad
That left Attenborough and Jorstad heads-up for the World championship crown, or bracelet rather, with the Norwegian holding a small chip lead.
The very first hand saw an incredible 20-minute river tank from Attenborough, considering a hero call that he’ll be very glad he eventually declined…

…and then followed that with an insta-call double up as Jorstad bluffed into top pair.
However, in an incredible re-run of that monster tank, the end came about in almost identical fashion – Attenborough again with J4 and facing a river bet for his Main Event life.
This time the tank was about 10 minutes and when he finally made the call – “Right, fuck it!” as he slammed the chips in, he was met by Jorstad’s full house.
“Fuck it, I’m out!” exclaimed Attenborough and the bracelet and $10million were headed to Norway!
