What started as a simple mixed-up deck of cards photo opportunity, when the 3 of spades appeared twice on the flop, has escalated to a threatened ban from the World Series of Poker and all Caesars properties…

Of course, the 3 of spades that appeared twice in the window shouldn’t happen at an event of this stature, but mistakes happen and can add to the fun and excitement of the WSOP experience.
Not, however, if you are an overzealous TD, and it only got worse from there…
“It has escalated to tournament wide announcement and barred from all Caesar’s properties,” revealed DeMaci, sparking a Twitter rush to share the unusual misdeal from every angle possible…

Earlier in the series, a joker appeared on the flop during the PokerNews Cup, the clip going viral and nothing apparently being said or done about sharing the video by WSOP organisers…
Perhaps that incident sparked the TD’s ruling in the double trey case this week, but it appears that of all the factors that make up a great WSOP, or the reverse, the floor staff have been struggling to reach the levels expected of the world’s premier tournament series.
MikeG wrote: “Better or worse than @mblasterx getting the clocked called him by the floor during break because floor wanted to pee lol. Venue has been great. My dealers have been better than past years. But TD continues to make ridiculous, non-standard calls all series.”
Mike Shiesty added: “I was a few tables away and most people were laughing about it definitely did not need to be such a dramatic thing. Not great judgement to announce that people who took photos or videos were risking being banned from Caesars properties lol.”
Coincidentally, the Tournament Directors Association (TDA) have just spent the last two days discussing “best practice” with a focus on the use of phones at the table.
That, however, was in response to players calling up range charts and odds calculators during play, rather than the “social media” side of things.
Stronger language for cell phone use at the table and we reiterated that we need to be less lax and more vigilant about players using phones DURING hands in play. No chance cell phones getting banned but we did discuss possibly removing deep in tournaments and live streams.

The law of unintended consequences could mean that livestreams and deep runs lose out on the players’ social media element, which would be a shame as it has become a huge part of the thrill for most players to share their experience.
For the time being, it looks like the heavy-handed approach will have the opposite effect – much like telling a teenager not to do something, the opposite will almost certainly happen.
