Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
The essential question that comes up here is, is that really a bad beat and if it is does it justify such a behaviour?
Regarding the hand itself, there is not too much to analyse and to say about it, since it is pretty standard.
Preflop David Peters, who has Robl and Negreanu covered, makes a resteal and puts the pressure on by setting both of them All-In. DNegs picks up Pocket Tens in the small blind and has an easy call, while Andrew Robl folds
10-10 vs. Q10s looks a very clear case for Pocket Tens at first glance, but when we take a look at the odds, then we can actually see that Negreanu is only a 62% favourite. This means that he loses this hand every third time:
Given the fact that David Peters even increases his equity by picking up a gutshot and flush draw on flop and turn, making this far from a bad beat, although the Runner-Runner flush might looks brutal.
Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion
Losing a preflop All-in in poker tournaments as a 62% favourite is pretty standard and actually happens all the time.
This hand is far from a bad bear, as Daniel Negreanu, would need at least 82-90% odds, which he is far from.
Considering those two facts alone, Daniel Negreanu’s reaction is by no means justified. However, DNegs is a very ambitious player, not running well at the WSOP so far and this was his second bullet, which means he burned a whopping $500,000 in buy-ins in this tournament, which probably was the real reason for the outburst.
