World chess champion Magnus Carlsen has finished 25th out of 1,050 runners in the Norwegian Poker Championship. The Unibet brand ambassador picked up around €5,000 for his effort and sounded extremely pleased with his performance.

Magnus Carlsen is now considered to be the greatest chess player of all time by many, even eclipsing the achievements of Garry Kasparov. But it seems that his talents have no bounds in the realm of mind sports.
Not only is he proving to be a formidable opponent over the felt, he is also a world class operator in the realm of fantasy football.
Magnus Carlsen Turns Pocket Aces into a Sick Bluff
It is known that Carlsen has played a fair bit of poker in the past. Chess international master Lawrance Trent even tweeted that the five-time world chess champion could be a world-class poker player if he dedicated himself to the task.
As seen in the video above, he also displayed a great deal of fearlessness and intuition during the event. Turning pocket aces into a bluff on a four-flush board isn’t a move that the average recreational player will make.
40 left in the Norwegian Poker Championships & @MagnusCarlsen has a decent stack. I’ve played a lot of poker with Magnus and can confidently say: 1)if wanted to be a world class player, he could (easily) 2) Careful when he has the 62o he loves 5 bet jamming this bag o’crap #poker

Magnus Carlsen Extends Deal with Unibet
It is likely we will see more of the chess legend at the poker table in the future. Magnus Carlsen has extended his deal with Unibet owner Kindred Group by two years and will be a part of the firm’s drive to stamp out harmful gambling.
Magnus Carlsen said:
“Just as I have set a hair-raising goal of becoming the first chess player in the world to reach 2,900 rating points, Kindred, as the first global gambling operator, has set itself an ambition of zero revenue from customers with harmful gambling behavior. This is an ambition I would like to contribute to achieving and a message I am happy to support.”
With his chess world championship defence not scheduled until early 2023, Carlsen has plenty of time for poker.
Many of his Twitter followers followed his run in the Norwegian Poker Championship and were asking if he could even make an appearance at this year’s World Series of Poker, due to start next month.
It would be a great boost for the poker world to have such a sportsperson taking part in one of the calendar’s major events.
