Only Fully Vaccinated Poker Players Allowed at the 2021 WSOP Europe

The WSOP Europe 2o21 has just kicked off. However, only fully vaccinated players are allowed to play in the 2021 WSOP Europe this year, following new COVID-19 restrictions in the Czech Republic.

A fierce wave of Covid-19 cases is sweeping across the continent forcing governments to implement unpopular directives. The Czech leaders have chosen to bar the unvaccinated from utilising various public services.

Czech Republic COVID-19 Restrictions to Impact WSOP Europe at King’s Casino Rozvadov

Starting from Monday November 22, any patron of the King’s Resort, Rozvadov, must present a vaccination certificate or pass an antibody test to prove that they have recovered from the coronavirus in the last six months.

This is a major step up from the previous policy of allowing unvaccinated players to take a PCT test at their own expense rather than getting jabbed.

Players wishing to get vaccinated to travel to the WSOPE must be vaccinated by one of the following brands:

  • AstraZeneca/Covishield
  • Moderna
  • Pfizer
  • Janssen

Will this Policy Negatively Affect the WSOPE?

The World Series of Poker Europe kicked off on Friday but is now likely to face a different outlook following this turn of events.

Any reader who regularly follows poker news will be aware that there are a group of big names in the game who are vocal about their opposition toward vaccines, lockdowns, and mask mandates.

Will there be a movement to campaign against players supporting the festival if this policy will be in effect for the foreseeable future?

High-stakes tournament regs Kristen Bicknell and Alex Foxen are two committed anti-vaccine voices in poker.

The engaged couple have more than $25 million in live tournament winnings between them and have just missed the WSOP in protest at the vaccine mandate.

We don’t know if they planned to travel to the Czech Republic for the big events later in the series but it’s doubtful that they will going now. Is this a sign of things to come in the future?

Alex Foxen has been filling his time with $10,000 high roller events at the Wynn Casino which doesn’t have any such restrictions, but with cases of Covid-19 still relatively high around the world he might be running out of options sooner rather than later.

It could soon be a reality that many big names in live poker might soon have no option but to stay out of the game or go against what they believe.
