Phil Hellmuth has admitted using Adderall to improve his performance at the poker table. The Poker Brat tweeted how he tried the “wonder” drug twice in his life to overcome tiredness in order to play well.
Thinking back, I have blown many many @WSOP tourneys due to exhaustion, which causes me to play poorly (my weakness). At today’s final table, and for 99% of last two days, I played my A-Game. It FEELS like I deserve to win tourney, but alas, it’s limit poker (6th place, sigh).. pic.twitter.com/6frqt2A6AS

1 I am telling myself, no, I am demanding myself to play great poker when I’m exhausted/tired. But then, I deserve help: more days off, work outs and @Breinfuel. And Adderal? Tried it twice—it helped—a ton of pros use it in tourneys. I have unbelievable knowledge of games, but..

It’s not a great sign for Hellmuth to already be talking about exhaustion only a few days into the festival. Is he beginning to feel every one of his 57 years?
The haters will no doubt be thinking that this could be the end of his charge for a record 16th WSOP gold bracelet.
2 strength: knowledge, I have an great understanding of how to play a wide assortment of poker games in tourneys: weakness: execution, my execution could be much much better. I will continue to search for answers as I play for @WSOP win number 16 #WSOP16 #POSITIVITY #PHNiceLife pic.twitter.com/5vaEnhlRKW

What Is Adderall?
Adderall is a prescription amphetamine, mainly used as medicine to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
It is a powerful stimulant that has become one of the most misused and abused drugs in the United States. Prescribed to both children and adults, Adderall now makes up a black market larger than all other narcotics except cannabis.
It is often described as a wonder drug for people who need intense concentration during periods of study. Students rave about the stuff.
Obviously, Adderall can be used by poker players to increase performance level, and, by the sounds of it, it is commonly used in the United States due to being easy to source.
It doesn’t come without risk, though. It has been described by many medical professionals as “legal meth”—possibly the most addictive substance on the planet.
Some of Hellmuth’s followers were quick to post warnings to him.
“Adderal, as someone who used to be prescribed it. It definitely works, it also has the downside. I stopped taking it when Dr stated it was like taking legal meth. If it’s taken randomly for tournaments, you may be ok, like anything else, body becomes dependent, rough on heart.”
Maybe Mike Matusow should give a friendly warning to his friend on the dangers of drugs and poker. He’s definitely got more than a few stories to tell.
