Doug Polk has tweeted about the possibility of him opening a poker room in his new home town of Austin, Texas. The high-stakes star retired (again) from poker earlier this year and finalised the new shift in direction by moving away from the bright lights of Las Vegas.
Considering the idea of opening a poker room in Austin. Have plenty of support on the finance/marketing side but would like to talk with some people who are familiar with operational logistics.

Doug Polk Interested in Opening a Poker Room
Polk makes it clear that the money is already in place and the marketing men are ready to go, but he admits he doesn’t really have much of a clue when it comes down to the operational side of such a business.
Bart Hanson was quick to reply, saying he knows of many reasons why this wouldn’t be a great idea in the current climate, especially in the city of Austin. He didn’t elaborate but one poster requested that they discuss this publicly.
Check out the video below where YouTube poker vlogger Brad Owen continues his tour of Texas and plays some PLO against Polk in an Austin card room.
Doug Polk Moves onto a New Chapter in His Life
It already seems a lifetime away since the High Stakes Feud match against Daniel Negreanu ended.
Doug Polk has shifted smoothly into retirement from playing poker, moving to a new city, and preparing for his wedding in a couple of months. So what next?
It seems certain that he will keep up his mischievous ways, as seen by his recent posting about Covid-19 being a “Chinese lab virus.”
But he does also have a serious side, as seen by the revamping of his popular podcast. The other day he interviewed sportswriter Norman Chad, where they spoke about the upcoming World Series of Poker, amongst other things.
We should expect to hear more about the controversial vaccine mandate in future episodes as the threat of a boycott looms largely in the background.
Doug Polk Possibly not a Fan of the New NFT Craze
There was an amusing exchange in the original tweet, with many claiming that a new poker room would not be a good business proposition.
One followers jokingly reminded Polk that he would have to charge rake and then get hounded for such a policy.
He was, of course, referring to Daniel Negreanu’s famous quote about more rake being better, which Doug Polk never lets him forget about.
Being told starting a business that brings in revenue is a “losing proposition” by a guy on the internet with an animated avatar worth six figures is getting pretty close to peak 2021.

As a confirmed fan of cryptocurrency, it also sounds as if Polk is not a fan of the new NFT craze. Many high-profile players have been spending seven-figure sums on graphics such as cyberpunks and he just doesn’t see the point.
