Dan “Jungleman” Cates has been teasing the poker community over him playing a very special Galfond challenge heads-up match.. The high stakes legend was speaking to Brandon Adams about how he would prepare for such a scenario.
Jungleman Teases the Fans over very special HU Match with Phil Galfond
The situation as it stands is that Phil Galfond and Jungleman have so far played around 1,000 hands and plan to play a total of 2,500. Brandon Adams then brings up the question of how Jungleman would conduct himself if the match was 1,000 hands per day for 25 days.
This led to some interesting conversation because Adams has found himself on the wrong end of a beating from Galfond recently, and looks to enjoy seeing how fired up Jungleman is to beat his rival.
Dan “Jungleman” Cates Goes to Extremes to win His challenge Matches
When Brandon Adams asks Jungleman to describe his routine for a “lock down” match, the reply surprises viewers with just how extreme he is prepared to go.
“The first thing I’m going to do is find a hotel…this hotel is going to be empty, with only people who are serving me…I’m going to be in total lockdown,”
Then in typical Jungleman style he quickly and randomly changes his mind.
“Forget the hotel…I’m going to find an apartment and I’m going to have people bring me food every day…I don’t want to see the sunlight when I‘m battling this guy, I want to be in a basement somewhere no one can fucking find me,”
“I’m going to start every day with 30 minutes of meditation then I’m going to do a bunch of exercise and I’m going to do some breathing exercises…then I’m going to do some visualisation of clipping his fucking wings,”
He continues by suggesting that he will be eating mostly unsalted chicken during the challenge with only hummus and apples as his daily treats in order to increase desire.
There was one other interesting snippet during this discussion, about how the rise of GTO solvers are not actually killing the game but instead increasing the scope of possible edges.
Jungleman says that although weaker players have been able to catch up through their use, the best players have also been able to increase their own edge. This means that the game is far from dead.
Jungleman Invests Big Bucks into Social Reputation App
The interview ends with Jungleman talking about a new app he has invested $80,000 in. It’s all about replicating the system nature uses to assess reputations and to stop people being able to get away with scummy behaviour.
It will focus on the poker world to start with, and allow users to upload what are assumed to be reviews on people who want to do things such as borrow money or buy/sell action. Jungleman says it will be like the Uber rating system but only for poker.
To some this will look uncomfortably similar to the Chinese Communist Party’s Social Credit Score system. We look forward to seeing what Jungleman and his developers can come up with.
