After announcing that he had quit the heads-up challenge vs. Bill Perkins, Landon Tice got a lot of scom and derision from the poker community. Find out here, if Landon Tice got rug-pulled by his backers or what was the real reason why Tice threw the towel?
Regarding the Perkins Challenge:
As a team we decided to surrender. We see no other way to proceed. He’s a much stronger player than expected and I took on more than I could handle.
It was an unreal experience to be a part of, maybe in the future I’ll try again.

As background information, Landon Tice and Bill Perkins had a $200,000 side bet, that Landon needs more than $720,000 profit, which equals 9bb/100, after 20K hands.
Until Day 10, Tice was on target being up $144,255 equalling 8.5bb/100, but in the last two sessions Bill Perkins won $80.321. This reduced Landon’s win rate to only 3.5/100bb…
“He’s a much stronger player than expected”
On Sunday, Landon Tice then surprisingly tweeted “As a team we decided to surrender”:
A lot of people showed their incomprehension about this decision in the comments.
What was the real reason that Tice quit?
But not only that, the poker community also questioned straight away, if above given explanation was the real reason or only an excuse.
Quickly, rumours came up that the backers forced Landon to quit as it is known that he was backed to a substantial part for the challenge.
And to be honest, this actually does make quite some sense, since Tice is a newcomer, who burst onto the scene in 2020 and has only $268,378 in live winnings.
This means he probably didn’t have much of his own action and that his backers had more say in the decision-making process.
It is definitely a possibility that they rug-pulled Tice, after he lost two sessions in a row and his win rate fell from 8.5bb to 3.5bb/100 to avoid further losses as there were only 4,907 out of 20,000 hands played…
After 4222 hands you were up 8.5bb/100. 800 hands later and you “surrender”…?
Seems odd….— Jesse lee (@jesse_maxwell38) July 3, 2021
Did Landon Tice got rug-pulled by his backers?
Ya I kinda feel bad
He was touted as the young gun & encouraged to play by backers – who then rug pulled him & now everyone will call HIM a little b***h
The poker world doesn’t forget, is not forgiving & it’s totally not his fault … this thing was stupid from the beginning

Feel bad for the kid. Backers lost faith in him based on that small sample. I don’t think Perkins was better than they thought- I think Landon was worse.
