Charlie Carrel Bets $200,000 that He Can Beat NL500 Zoom Online

Charlie Carrel Out to Prove a Point

Charlie Carrel has tweeted an offer to wager $200,000 that he can beat the $500 Zoom pool after barely playing any poker for two years. The Englishman is no stranger to social media controversy and looks to have opened a can of worms for his haters to exploit.

The NL500 Zoom pool at PokerStars is very tough to beat

The poker world is full of challenges right now. After COVID-19 killed off live poker for the last year these matches from the High Stakes Feud to the Galfond Challenge have risen in popularity.

Now Charlie Carrel is looking to get in on the action with a solitary challenge that many think is beyond his reach.

A brief examination of his career shows that he had some amazing success on the live tournament circuit in the early days. Less than one year after his first live cash he binked a €25,000 EPT High Roller in 2015.

Another EPT win followed later that year, with another two the year after. Quite some start for a man in his early twenties, and he has followed that up with almost $10 million worth of live tournament winnings.

The problem is that live tournaments just don’t come up to the insane difficulty of the $500 Zoom pool.

Does Charlie Carrel Really Want it?

Straight after Charlie Carrel posted his challenge on Twitter the questions started to come in. They questioned if he is really serious about taking this task on.

It’s a possibility that he is starting to take offence at his peers showing a lack of respect for his skills and is just sounding off. After all his definitions were a little vague.

“Beating defined as winning over 50k hands. Betting 1:1 odds.”

This certainly doesn’t come close to defining beating any cash game.

Carrel also slid in a grey “get out clause” to be able to avoid anyone who asks too difficult questions of him.

“I won’t reply to people who I don’t think are 1) trustworthy 2) respectful or 3) serious about betting the money.”

One Twitter poster sounded interested in the challenge if the conditions are tightened up somewhat. They asked for 5bb/100+ over at least 100,000 hands in a single month.

This is more like it. This is what it means to be beating a game, rather than limping over the line $10 up and then claiming to be a winner.

Could Doug Polk Bet on this Challenge?

Doug Polk has a lot of history with Charlie Carrel. The pair have fallen out more times than people can remember.

Maybe the American would be interested in betting against him.

Polk is always quick to jump on any opportunity to flame Charlie Carrel. He would love nothing more than to see him fail only weeks after putting Daniel Negreanu in his place.

In a reply to the Twitter thread, Doug Polk stated clearly that he thinks Charlie Carrel is a bad poker player, regardless of how much money he has made.

“Charlie is terrible at poker. Everyone knows it. The reason is simple, im not going to say it, but trust me its there, and if you see it, keep it to yourself, dont say anything, because its definitely there.”

It would be great to see Doug Polk return to making YouTube poker  videos to analyse this challenge day-by-day.
