Is the Doug Polk vs Daniel Negreanu going to happen?
It seems that neither Doug Polk nor Daniel Negreanu fancy their chances in the upcoming ‘Grudge Match for Rollz’ showdown, Polk this week challenging DNegs’ claimed status as underdog…
Not going to sugarcoat this, I have beaten almost none of the opponents I have played since I got back into playing HU. It has basically been a 30-35 buyin beatdown by people playing all kinds of styles including the following:

Polk had so enraged Negreanu with repeated insults and videos that the Canadian finally gave in and accepted the challenge against his bitter rival.

However, since then GGPoker ambassador Negreanu has been enjoying the WSOP 2020 grind from luxury hotels and apartments in Vegas, then Mexico.
Polk on the other hand has been trying to rediscover the skills that once made him the number 1 heads-up player in the world.
Polk favourite to win the match
The game, it seems, has changed in the past few years – at least according to Polk – who listed all the details that have cost him 30-35 buy-ins…
- Opening under 50% of small blinds
- Limping the button
- Minraising the Button
- Misclicking every 30 hands
- 4 Betting me 20%
- Streaming their session on Twitch
- Randomly Leading all over the place
- 1 Tabling on a laptop
- Can’t figure out how to sit the table
The unfolding scenario, says Polk, could mean only 2 things: “All in all, either my fanbase of small to mid stakes players are either some of the strongest hunl players on the planet, or there may be trouble in paradise.”
That, of course, led to two scenarios among the fans looking forward to the Polk-Negreanu beef.
Doug out here trying to get those odds lowered so he can bet the house on himself… i like it. Or you know being honest 🤷♂️

Negreanu, though, had already claimed the underdog status for their grudge match, stating: “We are playing his specialized game NLH heads up. On his specialized platform, the internet. On his specialized terms, a cash game with no raising stakes.
All told, Negreanu believes: “There is no possible interpretation you can come up with that credibly denies I’m the underdog going into this match.”
Polk, though, was shocked to find his recent training run of losing heads-up against all-comers saw his odds as favourites shortened even more.
Who is actually going to win?
Of course, it’s hard not to see Doug Polk as a huge favourite despite his protests.
The California-born, 31-year old specialized in the HUNL format, defeating fellow online crusher Ben ‘Sauce1234Sulsky’ for close to $¾million back in 2013.
That gave Polk, known as ‘WCGRider’ online, an unofficial ‘best HUNL player in the world’ tag.
Although semi-retired from the game in recent years he is still considered to be light years ahead of Negreanu in HUNL knowledge.
Daniel Negreanu, on the other hand, has won almost all of his riches from live MTTs, the 46-year old Toronto-born legend pocketing over $42million in tournament winnings.
The pair have been battling on social media for several years now, and a small sample of the fights between the duo can be found here, here, and here.
