Warwick Mirzikinian had to return to court this week as he isfacing a charge for dangerous driving occasioning death.

Mirzikinian publically said “Sorry” and that he has to think of Julien and the accident every single day since it happened 2.5 years ago.

“There has not been a single day in the last 2,5 years that I have not thought about Julien”

Mirzikinian knocked down and killed Uber Eats delivery cyclist Julien Trameaux, while mistiming the overtaking of a bus in November 2017.

He was charged with death by dangerous driving later on and has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Warwick Mirzikian said that the tragic accident is hunting him ever since:

“There is nothing I can say or do to take back my actions on the day, even though I have prayed that it was possible. I am sorry. I can sincerely say that there has not been a single day that has passed over the last two-and-a-half years that I have not thought about Julien and what I did on that day.”

Mirzikinian has also offered to pay Julien’s funeral costs.

Warwick Mirzikinian faces up to 20 years in prison

The Sydney court lead by Judge Chris O’Brien will announce its decision and judgement on July 10th.

Under Australian law, Warwick Mirzikinian faces up to 20 years in prison, but such a hard judgement is rather unlikely as the accident happened in an unfortunate fashion.

Queen’s Counserl Mark Tedeschi stated that:

“A combination of factors lead to the death of Trameaux, only one of which was Mirzikinian’s fault.”

“This case is quite different to the usual dangerous driving case”

At the time of the accident, Julien Trameaux was wearing headphones and a backpack, while Mirzikinian was driving under the speed limit. In addition to that, Mirzikinian was driving a Tesla which is a very quiet car.

Mark Tedeschi told the court:

“We submit this case is quite different to the usual dangerous driving case. It’s this which makes this case one of those exceptional cases in which a non-custodial sentence is appropriate.”

Now it’s up to Judge Chris O’Neil to decide how much guilt Warwick Mirzikinian has regarding the accident and if dangerous driving really applies here.

The court’s decision will be announced on Friday, July 10th in Sydney.
