Nevada shuts down 440 Casinos due to Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak
Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak has ordered a statewide shutdown of all casinos and gambling operations for a mimimum of 30 days due to the Coronacrisis.
This order is unprecedented in the history of Nevada and will affect 440 licensed casinos, and tens of thousands workers.
Bars and Restaurants also closed
Not only casinos are shut down due to the Coronacrisis, also all nonessential businesses such as restaurants and bars will be forced to close as of noon Wednesday, while delivery or take away of food will remain possible.
“Additional steps must be taken to slow the spread of the virus”
Nevada Governor Steve Sislok said:
“Today additional steps must be taken to slow the spread of the virus in our state.”
Sisolak also mentioned how important it is to take the instructions of the state to stay at home seriously:
“You’re being told not to go out!” he said, and then repeated: “You’re being told not to go out. You owe it to them to listen to that directive.”
Today, I took the necessary steps to date to try to mitigate this pandemic & keep our community safe. Medical experts have advised that the most effective course of action is to direct all Nevadans to stay home & for all nonessential businesses to close to the public for 30 days.

The CEO of the American Gaming Association Bill Miller urged the federal goverment to provide aid for the Coronacrisis after the announcement:

However, Culinary Local 226 Secretary-Treasurer Geoconda Argüello-Kline said:
“The union supports Sisolak’s decision, but demands every Nevada employer pay all of their employees, including part-time workers and extend healthcare benefits.”
