Phil Galfond continues a huge comeback in the Galfond Challenge match against VeniVidi1993. After dumping close to €1 million in the first part, the American took a month off to reassess his position.
Fortunately for the fans, he returned to action a fortnight ago and has been crushing ever since.
Can Phil Galfond Do It?
Nobody gave Phil Galfond a prayer once he walked away to consider his position in this first match. They saw it as only a matter of time before the world beater realised he was outmatched here.
Apparently they spoke too soon because the action has been as one-sided as the first half, only this time in favour of Galfond.
Let’s put this into perspective.
The first part of the match consisted of 15 playing days. VeniVidi1993 won 13 of those with one of his losses being only 13 big blinds.
This is as much of a shutout as you can get. Galfond showed some numbers on Twitter highlighting just how bad he was running and even a microstakes fish would have a chance to be doing better.

Important Moments
In a match like this there will always be important moments that crop up and turn the action on its head. One such moment was the biggest pot from Saturday’s session.
Galfond bets the pot for €3,599 on an 8d 4c 3h flop and VeniVidi1993 raises to €14,396. Galfond ponders quickly before jamming. VeniVidi1993 wastes no time in calling off his remaining €17,641.99 and away to the races they go.
The turn and river are the Kh and Jc, not really connecting with the board leaving the rail puzzled over who could have won this €67,674.98 pot.
Galfond shows Ac 6h 5c 4h with VeniVidi1993 holding As 7h 6d 5h leaving Galfond a surprised winner with only a pair of fours. An incredible result.
