The 2019 WSOP Player of the Year Race was probably the most exciting ever. Shaun Deeb had the chance to steal the title in the very last WSOP event of the year from Daniel Negreanu by finishing 5th or better at today’s final day of the WSOP Europe €550 Colossus, while starting in 3rd with only 11 player left.
Daniel Negreanu vs. Shaun Deeb
What a matchup for 2019 WSOP Player of the Year! Two poker legends were fighting till the last second for this prestigious title.
Daniel Negreanu managed to pull in front during the WSOP Europe and had a pretty big lead of 364 points against Shaun Deeb before the start of the Colossus.
Both made it into the money to collect extra leaderboard points, but when Daniel bustet in 195th place and Robert Campbell in 149th place, Shaun suddenly had a chance to defend his WSOP Player of the Year title!
Shaun Deeb fires shots at Daniel Negreanu
Adding insult to injury and probably in an effort to push himShaun fired shots at Daniel after he busted:
Congrats to @realkidpoker double up to average finally and resolved jto over hj open 19bb effective of my 22 flop 992k3 buster shortly after

Shaun’s chances were still very slim as Negreanu managed to cash and score important points for the WSOP Player of the Year Leaderboard.
Shaun Deeb needed to make the Final Table of the Colossus and manages!
That meant Deeb not only needed to make the final table, but needed to finish 5th or better, not easy to do in a tournament with 2738 entries!
But Shaun managed to make the final table and finish Day 2 in 3rd place with only 11 players left!
Shaun Deeb misses chance to win back-to-back WSOP Player of the Year titles
Suddenly Deeb had a very decent chance to win Player of the Year. He started today’s Final Day of the Colossus as one of the big stacks in 3rd Place and only needed to finish 5th.
It’s down to the final event as @shaundeeb looks to pass @RealKidPoker for the 2019 WSOP Player of the Year honors. Eleven players remain. Deeb wins the PoY title with a 5th place finish or better. Otherwise Negreanu wins.
