Daniel Negreanu’s latest thoughts on the super high roller poker scene seem to have upset some of his colleagues. Kid Poker named the four players he thinks might well be ‘stuck’ despite having $multi-millions in tournament winnings – and Ike Haxton tops the ‘non-profit list’…

First on Daniels list: Ike Haxton
Schwartz’s poser – “How far down the top 100 money winners list do you have to go to find a losing tournament player?” – led to Daniel naming Ike Haxton, Dominik Nitsche, Sean Winter and Dan Shak as the quartet he thinks are most likely to have lost –or at least not really won – money, despite massive career earnings.
“I went through it with a fine toothcomb and found 4 names who very well could be stuck”, stated Negreanu. He explained of all-time number 13 on the moneywinner’s list, Haxton, that an “average for last 4 years of about $5million buy-ins” could spell trouble.
Ike Haxton has $25,948,295 in recorded winnings on Hendon Mob, more than $6million of that coming in the past year, with a Super High Roller Bowl scoop of $3,672,000 included.
The upside for poor Ike Haxton, as Daniel explains later, is that “He makes a lot of money in cash games…had significant pieces of others…and that more than makes up for being break-even yourself”.
Daniels second pick: Dominik Nitsche
Next up on Daniel’s ‘losers list’ is Dominik Nitsche. The German currently sits 26th on the all-time list with $18,016,133 but according to Daniel a possible loser with his liking for “SHR, SHRB, $100k buy-ins”.
Nitsche shrugged it off with a smart response…

…and Daniel was quick to offer his apologies for any offence taken…
Apologies if you took offense. You have been around a while so I guessed that if in 10 years average buyins would be in the 1.8 range it’s feasible that you could be stuck.

…but that didn’t appease everyone, Negreanu accused of a potentially harmful public ‘name-and-shame’…
If? Why would he not take offense? Guess? You have NO/ZERO idea. Feasible? You have no understanding of that word’s meaning in an economic sense. Not a comment on skill? What then is it? Evidence? Guess+Feasible=Evidence? Dominik is respected. You are little boy. Stop.

Third spot goes to Sean Winter
Number 3 on the poker pauper’s list is Sean Winter, the Florida pro amassing $12,758,001 for number 46th all-time, but another regular on the SHR circuit.
Negreanu says this lifetime earnings amount equates to “3 or 4 years of buy-ins”, so Winter is roughly breakeven at best.
Despite Negreanu’s protestations, the poker community in general quickly smelled a potentially ‘enjoyable’ quarrel, the kind such tweets often produce…
Very few people don’t know that, and there’s many ways of informing them without playing a “guessing game” as to who is actually a loser despite 10m+ in winnings. It’s childish and pretty obviously designed in part at least to have some fun embarrassing fellow community members.

And the fourth place goes to…Dan Shak
Dan Shak was named as the 4th of Negreanu’s strugglers from the top 100.
The Pokerstars man stated that hedge-fund manager Shak is someone “I’m pretty confident about”, though adding of the highstakes semi-pro: “If he’s stuck, he’s not stuck very much”
Well, if this story takes off as a multi-way Twitter spat as seems likely, it won’t be because the subject itself hasn’t been on almost every poker fan’s discussion list for quite some time now – DATpodcast host Schwartz stating it clearly enough…
As if we’re the only ones to ever consider this.
