Although she exploded into poker vlogger sphere only a few months ago, Marle Cordeiro’s YouTube channel is already near dead.
Marle Cordeiro was widely covered in the online poker media back in October for a viral video of hers. Now, it seems she was unable to keep the momentum going for her YouTube channel.
How Marle became known
Cordeiro’s channel was created on October 1st, 2011. However, the oldest available video was published on September 11th, 2018. The vlog that garnered her worldwide attention was posted on October 15th. It was titled “LOOKING FOR A POKER PLAYING BOYFRIEND”.
In it, Cordeiro showed a comedy sketch about her walking from casino to casino looking for a male poker player she hasn’t slept with. The video was picked up by many poker sites, getting it to over 89,000 views as of the time of writing this article. Cordeiro jumped from less than 2,000 subscribers to 10,000 over the course of the next ten days.
Meanwhile, a discussion started in the online poker community about a conundrum. While some celebrated the fact that a new female voice gained an audience in the poker world, some criticized her for the way she was portraying women in the poker industry.
Cordeiro appeared on Joe Ingram’s podcast in November discussing the backlash she got.
“What was really upsetting was that, I just felt really misunderstood I guess, and I was just kind of, blown away, cause I was so not expecting that” – she told Ingram.
A week earlier, on the same podcast, Ingram and Polk were trying to predict the longevity of Marle’s newfound success, with Ingram being optimistic about her future, while Polk less so.
The Current State of Marle’s YouTube channel
As of now, it seems Polk was in the right. She only uploaded one vlog during the entire month of December. The video of her recounting the time she played a high stakes cash game in Ivey’s Room only has 39,000 hits with an 82% approval rating.
Partly due to her inactivity, Cordeiro’s daily subs and views are also way down. Her videos only receive around 1,000 views combined and she gains a couple dozen new subscribers a day. Compare these numbers to October last year. Back then she had multiple days with subscriber gains over a 1,000. She was also often getting over 10,000 views on a given day.
As of now socialblade.com, the site where the numbers cited above are from, estimates the income her channel generates is between $17 and $266.
Is there a way back for her career?
Getting 39,000 views on YouTube in the niche genre of poker vlog is still impressive. Evidently, she needs to get back to a regular upload schedule. If she wants to keep her audience, let alone gain substantially, that is.
However, did Marle become the new female poker superstar some people saw her as, as recently as a few months ago? Compared to that standard, she failed. Especially given all the exposure she got early on.
