Alexey “IamBusinessman” Savenkov scooped the $291,188 top prize in last night’s weekly biggie on GGPoker. It was the Russian player’s first GGMillion$ title after several near misses.

The weekly $10k buy-in SHR attracted 134 entries on Sunday but by the Tuesday evening only the final table of 9 were left, vying for the lion’s share of the $1,340,000 prizepool.
In the mix, such names as Niklas Astedt, Dominik Nitsche and Peter Aerts, with Brazil having its usual complement – this time Fabiano Kovalski and Cristian “axelroses” Aquino, the latter having taken 3rd spot almost exactly a year to the day.
Kovalski was first to bust and it was a brutal exit, fans of the GGPoker livestream treated to one of the best mystery hands in recent memory…
Kovalski: A♥ 8♥
Messere: ? ?
Flop: 8♣ 5♣ 5♠
Turn: 6♣
River: 8♠
Kovalski bet all but a couple of bigs on the river but it was almost a slowroll from Messere who eventually shoved and KO’d the Brazilian…
Messere: 7♣ 4♣
Seire and Arkhipov followed him to the rail, the latter relying on a flush draw that didn’t appear, and then it wad the turn of the legendary Astedt to assume short stack status, soon also falling to Messere.
The remaining five players had locked up 6-figure scores but there was plenty more up top. Unfortunately for Brazil’s “axelroses”, he picked the worst time to aggressively defend his big blind … Aqu9no taking $108,314 as compensation.
Nitsche, who hit the headlines last summer at the WSOP during “LaptopGate” and was playing this week under the Costa Rica flag, was soon on fumes. It was Aerts who picked them up, flopping trip 8s and dodging a heart on the river, to send the German-born pro to the rail in 4th for $138,694.
Deciding the podium placings was next, with a $50k and a $70k jump to maneuver as well.
Messere, down to 10 bigs, staked his tournament life on suited gappers blind-on-blind, only to run into the very top of Aerts’ range…
Messere: 10♣ 8♣
Aerts: A♣ K♦
Flop: J♣ K♠ 2♠
Turn: Q♥
River: 3♦
That gave Aerts a 3:1 chip lead over his Russian foe, but Savenkov slowly pulled him back and would eventually cooler him for the win…
There was to be no saving river and the Russian had bagged his maiden GGMillion$ win.
