Punnat Punsri Tops All-Star Final Table to Win Triton Jeju $125,000 NL

Punnat Punsri has completed a hat trick of Triton titles after taking down the Triton Jeju $125,000 NL event for $2,594,555.

Punnat Punsri Tops All-Star Final TableThe Thai star has now won almost $20 million in Triton Super High Roller Series events — ninth on the all-time list — taking his career total up to $23,643,127.

No record-breaking field for a $125K buy-in event but we still had the pleasure of 60 top players ponying up 93 entries to build a prize pool of $11,625,000.

Action Recap

Christoph Vogelsang and Chris Brewer were the early chargers, rising to the top of the chip counts as others struggled to hang on as the bubble approached.

Phil Ivey just made it through for a 15th place finish but Leon Sturm busted out to go home empty-handed.

Brian Kim was lucky to make it through, ultimately for a 12th place finish and a $215,000 prize. The American ran pocket queens into aces held by Danny Tang but a lady on the flop saved Kim’s day and left Tang with only 4bb, busting out minutes later in 13th place.

When the final table sat down, Christoph Vogelsang led with 51bb to Punsri’s 31bb. Kiat Lee was on life support with only 5bb left.

Dan Smith had only 6bb and went with A♠ 10♣ but found himself up against Chris Brewer’s pocket queens.to narrow the field to seven. Five cashes for the trip and a prize of $413,000 maybe made up for missing out on a third Triton title.

Vogelsang was starting to run away with it but Ben Tollerene turned the tables to steal the lead himself and put the German back in third place.

Tollerene raised pre and bet on every street on a board of A♠ K♣ 2♣ 2♥ 4♦. He got a call from Vogelsang on flop river and turn with Q♥ J♠ before mucking his hand. Tollerene then flipped over 9♣ 5♣ for a bluff grabbing the lead.

Then Kiat Lee left after nursing a micro-stack for several rounds.

Incredibly, Ben Tollerene was next to leave after suffering terrible luck when he actually had a hand. Ace-king all-in in consecutive hands was enough to end his run.

Punsri was now the leader and picking up even more momentum, including using pocket jacks to good effect to knock out Joao Vieira.

The Thai star now had 63bb with Vogelsang on 15bb, Badziakouski 11bb and Brewer almost out with 5bb.

But then Vogelsang and Badziakouski both doubled up to give Punsri something to think about, although not for long. In the blink of an eye, we were onto heads-up.

Brewer opened on the button with J♠ 10♠, with his last 8bb, and Badziakouski called in the small blind with Q♥ J♣. Vogelsang then put them both all-in with A♠ Q♣. Both called and an ace on the turn sent them both to the rail.

The German now had 42bb to Punsri’s 51bb, setting us up for a treat, but before they got going, an ICM deal was struck to give Punsri a guaranteed $2,504,555 and Vogelsang $2,456,445. $90,000 was set aside to be awarded with the title and glory.

In the end, there was to be no fireworks and it all hinged on a single hand.

Punsri completed the small blind with 7♥ 3♦ and Vogelsang checked his option with J♥ 2♥.

The flop ran out 3♥ K♥ 4♣ and Vogelsang checked. Punsri led out with his small pair and flush draw and Vogelsang raised. Undeterred, Punsri three-bet and was called.

The turn was the A♣ and was checked around. The 7♣ river sewed up the pot for Punsri but it was Vogelsang smelling a steal who started the betting again. Punsri called it off to leave Vogelsang with a single blind which was lost on the next hand.

Punsri looked elated with his latest victory and he is now becoming one of the most feared opponents in the live tournament scene.
